Gillian Gestures - Introduction

Patrick Sheng (fb)

Hi! Im Patrick I’m from Canada ,Ontario. I first started seriously learning gestures drawing when I started applying for animation school and I have at it for almost 2 years now! I would really like to learn how I could bring more life/ action to my gestures 🙌

Welcome Patrick! Are you currently studying animation? This approach to gesture drawing will be perfect to support your animation studies. Good to have you here!

Omar Velasco Santiago

I'm Omar and I'm from Mexico. I used to draw cartoons or doodles for fun. I stopped for about 10 yrs and I've been trying to properly learn to draw since last year. If you offer any online mentorship on drawing I'd love to join, I'm kind of lost. I've looked for any art center here in my locality but most of the art taught here gravitates toward plastic arts and abstract sculpture. I love what you do.

Hi Omar! Great to have you here! I understand the frustration when you're feeling lost with your art practice. Hopefully you find some of the ideas here helpful and give you a process to help guide you more clearly. If you think you'd benefit from one-on-one feedback, that is available at the Sketchbook Tier level. But maybe stick around and see what's going on at the Pencil Tier for a month or two then decide if you need more direct tutoring.

Max Golding Wilkens

Hi my name is Max and i'm from Berlin. I graduated in Animation in 2020, and I have been doing some odd jobs here and there since then. Lately, I have been lacking a bit of inspiration as a storyteller. I still draw, at least once a week, but not everyday like I used to. I would really like to bring more life into my gestures when I draw. Give them more expression! It would help a lot when I'm animating characters.

Hi Max! Thanks for signing up! Good to have another animation artist here too. My approach to gestures drawing is very story driven, so I hope that it gives you some new things to think about when youre drawing. Welcome!

Christoffer Kramme

Hi I'm Christoffer/Chris, from Denmark. I just recently joined the patreon(which is why I'm replying now to this older post) after following you on instagram for a while, and I'm excited to be here! I first learned gesture/life drawing 15 years ago on a week long drawing course and took some other courses throughout my high school years. After high school I took a 6 month course at The Drawing Academy in Viborg, Denmark, and did weekly lifedrawing through my college years. I graduated from The Animation Workshop 9 years ago and haven't been doing much lifedrawing since, but I would love to get back into it. I work as an animator and would like to get back to studying the human figure, building my mental library of anatomy, proportions and gestures. And I just really enjoy lifedrawing, so I'm wanting to build up a habit of doing it regularly again.

Sierra K

Hi everyone, I'm Sierra in Ottawa, Canada. I'm quite new to gesture drawing and have mostly learned through Proko videos. Good gesture drawings are so captivating, and I would love to achieve that myself.

gillian gestures

Hi Sierra, welcome to the group! Proko is a great resource for new and experienced artists, I'm sure you have learned a lot from his videos. Happy to have you here with us! - GG

Welcome Marianna! So great to have you join us! I hope you find some helpful tutorials here to help you with your comics :)

Catmouse James

Hi there! I'm Dinah from Madagascar (catmouse james is a pen name) :) I just discovered your instagram account as I was searching here and there for some tutorials on social medias. I'm a comic book artist and illustrator (kidlit), and I began to make gesture drawings 6-7 years ago. So, today, I want to re-learn everything because I feel like my drawings are all the same and with no major improvements :)
