Hello sketchers!

In this video, we are getting into what materials are best for gestures and which materials are not so great...

The thing I love about gestures drawing as an art form is that it is CHEAP!

You don't need fancy paper, you can use dollar store / pound shop pencils and sketchbooks if you want.

Take the money you're saving on buying cheap materials and buy yourself something nice.

Let me know what materials you most enjoy for gestures in the comments below.

PS. A colleague shared this chapter on mechanical pencils with me and it describes my feelings exactly! Haha!

How did I not see the inclusion of the mechanical pencil chapter! Haha!

Hi Gillian. I was wondering where you source your Newsprint and especially Conte Pencils. Looked at Amazon, pretty pricey, over 30.00 for two.

Hi Bill! For the Newsprint, I get mine at DeSerres. They are sometimes on sale (especially before the new school year) and are around $4-6 a pad. I go through them fairly quickly, so I buy about 5 at once! Conte sticks - I have a little box of them, they're all the same. I honestly have no idea when or where I got them! They are about $30 on amazon but you get 12! And I've honestly had them for years, they last a really long time, I'm not even half way through them. You can also just buy the conte pencils, they are about $4 each at DeSerres too. You are in Ottawa too, is that right?

Hi Gillian. Thanks for the links! And I'm also in Ottawa, west end, but you can pretty much get anything delivered now- a-days. De-Serres was my go too for supplies pre-pandemic .For one reason or another I did not see these videos when I joined Patreon last fall. Catching up but very, very informative. Thanks !

That I wasn't aware of, Thanks !
