I've been drawing a lot of female models in recent posts. I want to make sure that I'm trying different types of anatomy so that it's now boring, for both you and for me.

So this time, I choose an older male model. I bought this pack from Studio Grafit again and the model is doing 'classical' poses, which mean poses that were used heavily by the old artists from days of yore. The types of poses you see in old paintings and sculptures.

This model was a bit of a challenge, because although he is older and his muscles are a bit leaner, he is not skinny. He still has muscle definition but it is just aged.

On this session, I got really absorbed in more anatomical detail than I usually do. These gestures weren't timed but they each ran around the 5 mins mark, much longer than I usually like to do gestures. But this give me time to enjoy swimming about in the anatomy, especially in the legs.

What do you think of this kind of classical posing?

What types of bodies do you find the most challenging to draw?

What anatomy do you love/hate to draw?!

This was awesome - I would appreciate some more guidance on really understanding how to go from hips to legs to feet. I really liked that idea that gesture drawing can capture anatomical understanding - going to check that Karl Gnass fella out.

Karl Gnass is great! I hope you like his stuff. He has some online workshops that aren't too expensive. I will do a dedicated leg video soon to explain the leg rhythms for gestures!
