BONUS Video - Gesture to Design (Patreon)

Hey Sketchers!

Something extra and a little bit different for you today...

Since I drew the gestures from the Pin Up Girl theme that you voted for, I've been dying to turn one of the poses into a little character.

She just feels so light hearted, care-free and jaunty and I wanted to refine the gesture into a character design, just for fun!

So here she is!

I play a little ukulele myself but I can't play a lot of songs...

But one of my go to's is Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer, so you can image her playing that as she saunters down the beach.

Check out the time-lapse video above to see how I took the ideas from the gesture and tweaked it into a character design.

A lot of the design work was already done when I did the gesture drawing. I was seeing big shapes and interesting lines all over the outfit and anatomy.

There were definitely areas I rushed through that needed a little more information and care, like how the hands interact with the uke and what her face would look like.

This is an example of how you can generate story ideas directly from your gesture practice that might end up on your instagram, in you portfolio or on merch!

Do we need some stickers or prints of her?....Maybe!
