Okay, okay... I know I've been giving you some tricky ones in the last few months, so this time I've chosen an easier pose!

However, the challenge lies within the shoulder girdle on this one. Since we've just been looking at the shoulder girdle anatomy, what a good time to try a pose and view like this.

Draw the model in your style and if you like to share it with me and your fellow patrons you can share it in this Google Drive folder. (There is just one folder now).

Be sure to include your name in the file name, so we know it's yours!

Submission deadline: Tuesday 3rd October.

Some things to think about as you approach this gesture:

  • Exaggeration - although the pose is quite subtle, how can you exaggerate it and create more tension, movement, force, DRAMA!
  • Arms - consider the action of the arms and how they are affecting the scapula.
  • Connections - remember your origin and insertion points of the muscles. Have an anatomy book open to help you or my video on the Shoulder Girdle.
  • Legs - Can we bring back some of our leg anatomy from July?
  • Negative space - can you exaggerate the negative space to help the pose read clearly?
  • The head - don't forget the head is part of the gesture too!

Looking forward to seeing where you take this one!

Hi Gillian! Unrelated but would you ever consider doing a future video on drawing figures from imagination? Sometimes I find it hard to draw from imagination with a process that focuses on laying down lines of action first that are usually based on a given reference model if that makes sense.
