Realtime Gesture Video: Frank Frazetta (Patreon)
Content
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving all!
I know there are several Canadians here and some others who have lived here at one time or another.
Let's not get too emotional...but I'm thankful for all of you! You work hard for your pennies and there is a lot of great drawing content online but you choose to support me. I appreciate each and every one of you!

Well let's get back to some drawing business, eh?!
Did you have time to watch the Frank Frazetta Artist Study last week? If not, take a peep at that one first so you know what I'm talking about in this one!
In this video, I'm taking the things I learned from studying his work and exploring them within my own process.
A reminder:
- Artist studies are to inspire and to explore other ways of doing things.
- The goal is not to draw in that artist's style.
- Be you...but better!
You'll notice in the image above, I have my study sketches alongside me as I draw, so that I don't slip back into just drawing the way I always do. I need those visual aides to be intentional.
Things that I observed from the study and wanted to play with in my gestures were:
- turning the chest to the sky
- hair blowing dramatically in the wind
- pushing elements into the background with shading
- flat, simple hatch shading
- ink gestures
- upward angles
- drama!

How did I do?
Did you notice a difference in the way I approached these gestures?
Was I copying too much and being too Frazetta?
What was your favourite Frazetta thing that I tried?
Let me know in the comments below and if you try any Frazetta style gestures, please share them with me!

Please also support the model Amanda Achen. She's one of the best models I've ever drawn and she deserves any support you can give her!
