Happy Friday everyone!

Hope you have all had a good week. If you haven't managed to make any time for yourself to draw, carve out some time this weekend. It doesn't need to be a lot of time, maybe just 20 minutes somewhere to do something for yourself and your art practice.

I wanted to share something new with you. It might be too early to be sharing thoughts on this but I will anyway!

You may have noticed me mention the artist Patrick J Jones several times on Patreon. I'm a big fan of his style and knowledge and I have been eye-ing his web store for a few months now, waiting for my schedule to open up a little so I could commit to one of his online courses.

This week, I finally did it! I bought his course on the Female Fantasy Figure. I'm only a couple of videos in but he does a demonstration of how he approaches the figure with willow characoal. So I thought I would play around with some at my local life drawing class and I was pleasantly surprised with the results!

I'll keep you posted on the progress of the course and see if you can notice the way I draw evolving as I learn from another artist.

It feels really refreshing to learn from another artist every once in a while. It can be easy to settle into your own way of drawing and stop progressing but I'm excited about where my drawing may go while learning from Patrick.

  • Are you learning from any other artists (apart from me!) at the moment?
  • Do you have any gesture or life drawing courses that you would recommend?

I am currently mentored by Mike Mattesi of FORCEdrawing. He’s patient, creative and with a fantastic skill set.

That's great that you are getting mentored by Mike. He's a wonderful gestures artist and he influenced my gesture drawing a lot in my early days.

Is this from Patrick's course on proko? I have his anatomy of style book, and I'm curious about the course.

This image was just from a life drawing class. But the course I’m referring to is on the Proko website too. They have a 20% off offer at the moment too! But I found it cheaper to buy from Patrick’s website with CAD.
