Next up in our Artist Study series, exclusive to the Conté Tier, is German artist Heinrich Kley.

I first learned about Kley's work when I was at University studying Animation. I thought he would be a good artist study because of the way he captures movement and character in his line work as well as the way he anthropomorphises animals to create fun characters and imaginative stories.

Check out the video as I go through some of his sketches and pull out some techniques I want to try for myself in the next Gesture Realtime Video.

----------

Some of the techniques that learned from Kley's sketches that I want to apply to my own drawings include:

  • Hatching
  • Being playful
  • Combining human/animal anatomy

What did you think of Heinrich Kley's sketches?

Is there something else you think I should experiment with in the next video?

Thank you for the idea, love it so much! I have 3 'lizards' right now asking for food in the same way, lol. Dachshunds really remind lizards in terms of shape sometimes. Also you've shared a great artist, will look into his works more. Did not know about him
