3 Easy Techniques to Paint a Watercolor Rooster (Patreon)
Content
Good Afternoon Patreon Family! I just returned from a weekend in New York City and I am exhausted. My last video was of a Gouache rooster so of course I also did a Watercolor rooster for you. I used 3 basic watercolor techniques to complete this sassy guy.
Wet-on-wet- Either wet the paper with clean water and then apply paint to the wet area or wet the paper with paint and then add more paint to the wet paint. The paint can be the same color as the initial paint or a different color (also called charging paint)
Glazing- Apply an initial wash of paint and let it dry thoroughly. Once it's dry apply another wash of paint over the dry paint. This can be the same color as the first to deepen the color or a different color to change the color.
Lifting- Using a damp/dry brush to lift excess paint while the paint is still wet. This lightens the area. Or after the paint is dry, re-wet the paint with clean water and then use a damp/dry brush to remove excess paint and lighten the area. *You can also use a damp stiff bristle brush to lift paint. (This method not shown in the video)
