Challenge: Go outside with your sketchbook and find 5 ordinary thingsβ€”but make them extraordinary.

Choose 5 treasures from your backyard. It can be a leaf, rock, flower, seed pod, bug, butterfly, piece of bark, feather, garden tool, interesting shadow...anything that catches your eye. There aren't no wrong answers here.

For each treasure, create a tiny sketchbook study using a different approach:

✏️ Draw it realistically – Look closely at the shapes and details.

πŸ–οΈ Draw it without looking at your paper – Just look at the object!

🎨 Paint it using completely unexpected colors – Purple leaves? Blue dirt? Go for it!

πŸ–ŠοΈ Turn it into a pattern – Repeat one little shape or detail across the page.

✨ Make it abstract – Forget what the object actually looks like and play with its shapes, colors, and textures.

Bonus challenge: Give your five treasures silly names and write a one-sentence β€œfield note” about each one. πŸ˜‚

This is a great exercise to slow down and really observe the world around you. It also boosts your creativity by giving you permission to explore different ways of interpreting the world around you. There is no wrong way to do this. No Pressure!

Happy Treasure Hunting! πŸͺŽ
