I have a new painting tutorial for you! This time, we’re painting a sweet little ladybug perched on a cluster of beautiful blue flowers.

I kept this one simple and approachable, using just one blue for the flowers and creating all the different values by changing the paint-to-water ratio. For our little ladybug, I used just three colors—transparent orange, red, and maroon. Then I added the finishing details with Bleed Proof White, colored pencil, and pen.

I love projects like this because they remind us that we don't need a huge palette or complicated techniques to create something beautiful. Sometimes, limiting our colors actually helps us see value, shape, and light more clearly. 🎨

🐞 Bonus content for this tutorial will be coming in a separate post later today, so keep an eye out for that! I’ll have some extra goodies to help you with your painting.

Now grab your supplies, settle in, and let's paint a tiny bit of backyard magic together! 🌿💙

Happy painting, friends! ❤️

Paint a Beautiful Ladybug on Blue Flowers | Easy Watercolor

Come paint a little bit of garden magic with me! In this tutorial, I’ll show you how I painted a beautiful ladybug resting on a cluster of delicate blue flowers using a simple, limited palette and a few easy techniques. The flowers may look detailed, but I kept them intentionally simple by using just one blue paint. Instead of adding lots of different colors, I created the light and dark values simply by adjusting the paint-to-water ratio. It’s a wonderful way to practice creating dimension without making a painting overly complicated. For the ladybug, I used only three colors—transparent orange, red, and maroon—then added the finishing touches with Bleed Proof White, colored pencil, and pen. This is a great little project if you enjoy painting flowers, insects, nature, and garden-inspired art, or if you want to practice getting more variety and depth from a limited palette.
