ππ¨ WEEKEND CHALLENGE: Autumn in 3 Colors! π¨π (Patreon)
Content
Okay, friendsβ¦ I know itβs supposed to be Autumn in the Making, but here in North Carolina, Mother Nature apparently didnβt get the memo. π
It is SWELTERING outside! π₯΅π So if youβre having trouble getting into the autumn mood while the temperatures are still acting like summer, this is where our imaginations come in handy!
π Your Challenge:
Choose ONLY 3 colors and use them to create an autumn-inspired painting.
You can choose traditional fall colors like π red, orange, and yellowβor go completely unexpected! Try purple, turquoise, and gold. Paint a landscape, leaves, pumpkins, flowers, a still lifeβ¦ whatever makes you think of autumn.
And mixing is encouraged! π¨
See how many different colors and values you can create from just your three starting colors. You might be surprised by how much variety you can get from such a limited palette!
π¨ Why this is good for your art practice
Working with only three colors helps you practice color mixing, value, color harmony, and creative problem-solving without having an entire paint collection at your disposal.
A limited palette also forces you to make decisions. Instead of reaching for the "perfect" tube of paint, you have to ask yourself, "How can I mix what I need from what I have?"
And that is a very useful skill for an artist!
Most importantly, this challenge is about experimentation, not perfection. Your painting doesn't have to look like everyone else'sβand it certainly doesn't have to look like autumn outside your window. π
So crank up the air conditioning, grab three colors, and let's paint ourselves some autumn! ππ¨
I can't promise cooler temperaturesβ¦ but I can promise a little fall inspiration. ππ§‘
Have fun, experiment, and don't forget to have fun!
