Course of Temptation Dev Diary #113 (Patreon)
Content
Hello friends! Welcome to another dev diary.
This week I've been continuing work on 0.8 and implementing the pregnancy system.
First, a rare little personal note. As I've said before, I try to keep these dev diaries about what I've done rather than what I didn't manage to do, but sometimes things happen. This week I've had to take the same cat to the vet on four separate occasions... including today! Which is why this post is a little later than usual. I think this is finally on its way to resolving favorably, but suffice to say the whole situation did impact my progress somewhat.
That said, I've managed to end up roughly where I wanted to be with 0.8 for this month after this week of work. Pregnancy now works from beginning to end for NPCs as well as the PC, making it, technically, a complete system. Still missing are events and other fluff along the way, and I'll finish out the week working on those.
This is an initial pass on this, and probably sooner or later I'll expand on the narrative part of this, but for now I'm mostly just trying to get it to be a complete system.
And yes, twins are possible!
As you can also see, there are currently two options for what happens with the newborn: either adoption, or sending them home to your parents. If picking the latter option, it'll add rather significantly to your weekly debt. Currently this doesn't otherwise make a whole lot of difference, but one thing I want to do eventually is expand on the details of what your character is doing during vacations, particularly when you're visiting home over the summer, and whether a baby is in the picture would naturally have some implications with that.
I'll leave pregnancy about here for now, and the next time I work on developing 0.8, I think I'll start by going back to work on relationship stuff: cheating mechanics, simulating breakups, and adding marriage relationships between NPCs. But we'll see! All the new 0.8 systems still need iteration in a number of areas, but the end is beginning to come into sight.
For next week, I'll be setting 0.8 aside and moving on to the March monthly content update. That'll give it one week of dedicated development, which is less than I like, so it'll get another week of work between early access and public release. Some of the remaining development priorities identified in the last poll are a better texting system, adding a wrestling sport, and working on the art and photography secondary skills. I also need to do some more work on the storylines for the existing sports, sooner or later. And the contributors have been hard at work as well, but I'll talk more about that next week.
Do you have any preferences for what you'd like to see in the March update? Let me know!
For now, I'll leave it there, and I hope you have a good week. Thank you, as always, for your generous support, as I truly could not do this without you. I will be back next week with another progress report!
