Hello friends! The public release of the July update is here.

The focuses of this update are a rework of turnons and turnoffs, allowing you much more flexibility in what kind of NPCs the game will decide your PC is attracted to. They've also been tightened up for NPCs, who will no longer have turnons that don't match their orientation.

Some quality-of-life improvements have been brought to shops, with new sorting methods and optional pagination (which can help slower devices with navigating large menus). In addition, the online store Valkyrie has been added, to help you easily find books and clothes with the downside of additional expense and shipping time.

The People dialog has also gotten some quality-of-life improvements with the ability to sort by name and by the three main attitudes. We've also added custom groups: besides just favoriting an NPC, you can also add them to one or more custom groups (up to nine), with will add a new tab under the People dialog.

Finally, the Soft Dom and Brat inclinations added in 0.8 got some more attention. Rather than punishing you for breaking their rules, a soft dom will instead reward you for following them, and if your PC is a soft dom, you can do likewise to your sub NPCs. We've also added new simulation events that will allow NPCs to gain the Soft Dom and Brat inclinations.

The prologue has been slightly retouched, separating out the sometimes awkward combinations of relationship proclivities and levels of experience. The number of skillpoints available in quickstart skill distribution has been increased to 15, for better balance with prologue skill levels.

If you're not aware, we're maintaining two parallel development cycles:

The monthly update might contain new event sets, new locations, or new mechanics, but usually focuses on extending existing content or polishing existing systems. It comes out once a month with whatever we got done in that time period... hence the name!

The roadmap update checks off one or more items on the roadmap, adding extensive new mechanics and a bunch of related new events in one go, often fundamentally changing how the game can be played. It usually takes multiple months.

As always, my gratitude to the volunteer contributors who added to this update, to those who delved into this update's early access builds, and to the supporters who make this project possible.

Thank you and I hope you enjoy!

Release notes

Your character’s turnons and turnoffs now have much more flexibility, with the ability to choose any number and assign one of several priorities to them, to determine how much they affect your PC’s assessment of an NPC’s hotness

There is one special priority for turnons: Must-Have, without which you will not find an NPC attractive

Similarly, there is one special priority for turnoffs: Dealbreaker, the presence of which will make an NPC maximally unattractive regardless of all else

An NPC’s lack of a turnon/turnoff is no longer assessed if it isn’t possible — for example, a preference for large breasts is not a factor in your PC’s assessment of a cis man

An NPC’s hotness is scaled against what’s possible, so you no longer need to take at least four turnons to find any NPC hot — matching one or two strong preferences is sufficient

Conversely, if your PC has only one or two milder preferences, their assessments will be pretty muted, rather than, for example, a mild preference for short hair making half the population seem hot

If you have cheats enabled, you can now edit an NPC’s turnons and turnoffs through the View Person dialog, next to the Edit Inclinations button

If an NPC is a Soft Dom, they will no longer punish you for breaking rules but instead reward you for following them (unless you are a Brat, in which case they will give you the punishment you want)

As you’re found to be following a Soft Dom’s rules, you will gain favor with them, and favor can be traded in for rewards such as praise (which increases Composure), being treated to dinner, and getting a break from having to follow rules

Similarly, if your PC has the Soft Dom inclination, you may choose to reward your sub for following your rules

Adjusted some older content to better take Soft Dom and Brat behavior into account (this will be ongoing)

Added an interaction with a romantic partner or friend-with-benefits to discuss birth control

Added some new Elkbook lines (contributed by CadiaCreations)

A new phone app called Valkyrie now exists, with two departments: Books, which consolidates every available book, and Clothes, which consolidates every available clothing item, with the downside that shipping costs extra money and takes time (contributed by CGeorge)

The background NPC simulation now makes more attempts to find valid matches for events involving multiple NPCs (such as becoming friends), making these events happen more often and more reliably

Notifications that appear at the top of a passage are now often consolidated where possible (contributed by CGeorge)

Most store views can now be sorted by price and name, and let you page through rather than presenting every item on one page (contributed by CGeorge)

Bookstores can now be filtered by which skills they provide (contributed by CGeorge)

Adjusted peak fertility values upwards to better match estimated real world rates

To compensate, added a few more options to the fertility slider under Difficulty Options, mostly on the lower end

The fertility cycle day now resets at the end of a pregnancy, meaning it takes about two weeks to become fertile again — still not entirely realistic, but closer!

Fixed an issue with calculating the current fertility cycle day, meaning this has changed for the PC and NPCs as applicable

Added d20 tattoo (contributed by General Tacitus)

Added meditation pillow that adds a new meditate action to your room (contributed by Rfpnj)

Added some new foods, including a couple daily specials, to the dining halls on campus (contributed by Rfpnj)

Your newest sub rule will now be highlighted in the scene where it’s being added

Some miscellaneous fixes contributed by Rfpnj and CGeorge

Finished and enabled some BangCoffee events that had been lingering in the code (contributed by Hee Ho and CGeorge)

You can now sort the People list by name, attitudes, and general relevance (the previous and still default sort which prioritizes favorites)

You can now add individual people to up to nine custom groups through the View Person dialog by clicking the grid button next to the Favorite button in the upper right

As soon as a custom group has at least one person in it, it will appear with the other tabs in the People dialog, and it can be renamed from here

Prologue choices have been slightly reworked, mostly to separate relationship type inclinations (Polyamorous, Demisexual, etc.) from virginity status and related experiences (contributed by Rfpnj)

Quickstart skillpoints for skill level allocation have been increased to 15 (contributed by Rfpnj)

Expanded BangCoffee’s drinks selection (contributed by Rfpnj)

Added a couple additional color options to camo items (contributed by Hee Ho)

Added new luxury sportswear items, some skintight variant items, and some utility items (contributed by Hee Ho)

Most “basic” clothing items (things under $100) have been reduced in price (contributed by Hee Ho)

Many fixes and tweaks

A reminder that if you participated in early access, that version will no longer be updated until the next early access period — it's time to move to the public version!

Keep up the great work! Always excited seeing new updates, and Course of Temptation is not only one of my favorite spicy games, but also one of my favorite life sim games to play. Can't wait for even more scenarios and simulation ^-^

Wow. Your project is getting better and better every day. Personally, I’ve been really hoping for a feature to customize NPCs' likes and dislikes (turn-ons / turn-offs), and I’m so glad to see it finally implemented! However, I feel like it’s just a bit lacking lately. The PC always seems to find pleasure in sexual encounters with NPCs. Even if they don’t reach orgasm, their arousal meter always goes up and they feel good. I wish there was something opposite to this. Sex that is completely unfulfilling. Sex that feels unsatisfying, unpleasant, boring, or even painful the more they do it. Ultimately, I’d love to see encounters where the PC feels forced to fake an orgasm for their partner.

Just to make sure I wasn't missing something, I actually ran an experiment to see if this feature already existed.I gave my PC a preference for 'Big dicks' and gave the partner NPC a 'Small dick.' I wanted to see if the PC would fail to get properly satisfied and end up having to fake an orgasm. However, it turned out to be no different at all from having sex with NPCs who have Big dicks.

"custom groups" Oh hell yeah ! That's most definitely a nice surprise. Definitely appreciate the effort to put in some feature work when that's not the focus of the month. Absolutely not a requirement after such a big last update, but appreciated nonetheless. For now i'm having dificulties getting expected/satisfying results from the new turnon system. If i only pick a small amount like before, it feels mostly the same, but as soon as i try to pick more than 5-6, it seems to dilute the pc response a lot, which kinda defeats the point of unlocking the limitation imho. I've made a few tests which bring me to a few questions : - Why 3 importance levels specifically ? I feel like there's no reason to pick 'low importance' as it only dilutes the pc reaction and makes it harder to find people 'very attractive' - Why keep some turn-ons locking you out of some others ? Like dark hair locking away blond hair. If i can pick any number, it feels weird to not be able to like both hair colors - For likes and dislikes related to a slider (short/tall, plump/thin, big/small boobs etc), why not try to make them a bit more granular ? How exactly would be the question obviously. Currently the separation at middle value sometimes feels a bit arbitrary. Say a pc likes small boobs and dislikes big boobs, both at high importance, sometimes response to the same npc can vary a lot from just gaining a cup size, which feels wierd.

Love the game. Best part is the impregnation/pregnancy content so look forward to more development involving that

This is almost nothing to do with this particular update but am I missing something regarding being a dom and putting a sub in chastity? Is there a certain inclination they must have or PC must have? A control threshold? I can collar someone, control their wardrobe, ban them from wearing underwear but I don't seem to get the option to give them a chastity rule?
