Patreon's Decline as a whole (Patreon)

Where to fucking start... I'm going to set aside the professionalism for a moment here, and want to give you some of my opinions.I'm making this post because I've only noticed in general how much shittier this platform has gotten in the past 6 months, not better.

Destruction of free membership to preview 18+ posts:

For starters, Patreon no longer allows me to post anything that shows skin to a membership audience. During 2023-2025, posts were allowed to have nudity in the gallery if it was locked behind a general free membership, that is to say you couldn't see it if you did not follow my account, and only after you followed my account (which automatically makes you a free member), you could see the posts. But now it's completely disallowed, and any kind of sexy content must be hidden fully behind paid tiers, so free members who simply follow can no longer see full previews of my mods.

Why is this bad? Because video games in general are interactive content, which means game mods are also addons for that interactive content. It's important that users should be able to easily preview what a mod might look like in their game so that it could more easily help in their decision to purchase early access pass for such mods. The more mysterious and hidden the game mod is, the less likely people will want that mod, ultimately resulting in less paying members.

The member-creator merge, subscription visibility:

Don't get me started on this shit, probably one of the most infuriating changes of the past 6 months. Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to merge profiles and make your subscriptions public? This isn't fucking social media, and it shouldn't be, the last thing you want is your family members or friends finding out what kind of porn you watch and the kind of fetishes/kinks you have.

This is a horrible change that should have never passed in the first place, Patreon wants YOU to wear a sign around your head that says 'please socially condemn me'. It's no wonder thousands of users probably deleted their accounts altogether or simply stopped logging in.

The ever increasing platform fees

This one fucks up creators, by taking more and more platform fees over the years, which sometimes may force creators to ditch the platform completely or change their currency to get a better rate, I know I did a few months ago as the USD is no longer viable, and all my membership are now based in AUD.

Yes this is a rant, everything Patreon has done in the past 6 months has been pretty damaging to both creators as well as general users. This is just what's on my mind now as I realise a lot of my early access posts can no longer be made free on here even if it is uploaded on nexus, because fuck you for showing a tiny bit of skin in a video game am I right?
