There is no way these videos are tanking. I’ll be surprised if they’re not some of the most viewed on the channel because these movies are amazing as a full story. So excited for you getting to watch these with fresh eyes and no knowledge of the story!

Anya

Aahh! This just made my day! Can't wait to watch this, really hope you love this series. It gets better and better each movie.

BRENDA

Everything, in all of the movies, is connected. So you will learn more as you go through the movies, and everything you learn/understand

BRENDA

will help you throughout the series.

BRENDA

Great reaction too! I love to watch along with you because you get such a kick(fun time) out of the plots.

Love this! Totally understand the hesitation, but kudos for sussing it out for yourself. As a fellow believer I remember having similar questions, so I was happy to see what lovely underlying messages these had. Im excited to see what you think if you watch the others :) And I agree about Snape…he is a FORCE and I love it lol Also HUGE congrats on 10K!

First, congrats on 10K! That’s amazing! To think you thought it would take a year just to hit 1K. Okay, now, to my essay. Young wizards can sometimes perform magic unintentionally when they feel particularly scared or angry, like Hagrid said. But that is not to say that it stops happening after they join school and learn how to do it properly and practice it regularly. It gets rarer, but can still happen. The best way I’ve understood it is like wet dreams when you start puberty. Then when you discover how it works and start, um… “releasing” regularly, they kinda become less frequent and eventually stop. Why is Hagrid not allowed to do magic? Well, they left out this part in the film, but in the book, Harry asks Hagrid the same question when Hagrid asks him not to tell anyone that he gave Dudley a tail. Hagrid explained that he was at Hogwarts himself but was expelled in his third year and his wand was snapped in half (the broken pieces most likely hidden inconspicuously in his pink umbrella). But Dumbledore let him stay on as gamekeeper. (Hagrid was given special permission to do some magic in order to get to Harry, but not after he’d managed to find him and give him his letter.) Harry persists, asking him why he was expelled. And Hagrid abruptly changes the subject. Tell me you nearly recognized the old wand-maker Ollivander from the movie Alien? He’s John Hurt, who played Kane, the first victim out of whose chest the xenomorph burst. Each house has certain qualities that their membership embody. The next step for you is not watching the next film, but to take the official Pottermore Sorting Hat quiz to find out your house. (Beware that there are so many versions of this quiz online, so make sure you take the official one.) EDIT: I just saw on YouTube that you’ve taken it already off camera and you’re a Ravenclaw. Congrats! I’m a Hufflepuff myself. Please take the wand and patronus tests on camera if you haven’t already and you don’t mind! The caretaker, Argus Filch, is a nasty type. Enjoys punishing kids. His cat’s name is Mrs. Norris. If she spots something suspicious, she’ll go fetch him and he’ll appear almost immediately, wheezing. That’s why they ran the other way when they saw her. They didn’t want to get caught. Sure enough, he showed up just moments later. Yep, you figured it out during the match, but yeah, catching the snitch gets you 150 points and ends the game. Since it’s a ton of points, as you said, the team that catches it almost always wins the game. But sometimes, when the game drags on for a long time and you are more than 150 points behind the other team, you DON’T want the snitch to be caught even by your own team until you get closer to the other team’s score. As for Ron’s character, prepare yourself for a LOT of comments about how they did him dirty in the movies and gave some of his lines to Hermione. They’re not entirely wrong, but I won’t touch on it here. Ron’s growing up has been overshadowed by his brothers. (Bill, who now works for Gringotts Bank, was head boy. Charlie, who works with dragons in Romania, was quidditch captain. Percy, who’s in his fifth year at Hogwarts, is a prefect.) This explains why his deepest desire is to accomplish achievements that set himself apart. Ever after my introduction to the Guardians of the Galaxy, the unlocking spell “Alohomora” always sounds like “Hello Gamora” in my head. Does it, now, to you? You’re so good at predictions! There were one or two things that you said about the series that gave me legit goosebumps. (Obviously I’m not telling you what.) It’s incredible how they shot this film. If you watch some specific scenes again knowing what you know about the real villain of this film, you can spot the signs! For example, when Harry’s scar hurts early on when Snape was staring at him from the teacher’s desk in the Great Hall (and he turns to Percy to ask him who that teacher is that’s talking to Professor Quirrell), you see that Quirrell was right next to him with his back turned so his turban was facing Harry. His scar hurt because of Voldemort, not Snape. Then, at the Quidditch match, when the camera turns to show Snape in the center chanting his curse, you can actually see at the corner of the frame, for a couple of seconds, Quirrell is also looking up with concentration and muttering under his breath. And when Hermione set Snape on fire, in all the commotion that happened as a result, Quirrell got knocked over, breaking his spell. The camera actually shows him get back up, looking very annoyed. Yes, yes, love killed the bad guy. But not any bad guy. Voldemort. Harry’s mother’s sacrifice invoked an ancient, powerful magic that protected Harry specifically from Voldemort. So Harry’s burn-you-to-death-by-grabbing-you defense only works against Voldemort (and, in this case, his host). By the way, this is one thing I didn’t like that they made Harry directly kill someone in the very first film (even though it was self-defense). In the book, Quirrell gets bad third-degree burns or something like that from Harry’s touch, but it’s Voldemort who forsakes him while he’s still suffering and alive and left him to die. (And the effort involved nearly killed Harry, according to Dumbledore.) How many times a month do you watch/read The Lord of the Rings? All those references, mate! Far out! How is Voldemort (or rather, his soul/essence/whatever) still alive after his host died at the end of this film? What does Snape have against Harry that he immediately starts treating him so unfairly and never misses an opportunity to taunt him or single him out in some unpleasant way? Why was Hagrid expelled? These and other questions will be answered in time. “Patience. Patience, my love.” There’s no way you’re stopping your journey here. YOU MUST CONTINUE! FULFILL YOUR DESTINY, OSCAR! I promise the movies get better (they do stay around this long in terms of their duration, give or take 10-15 minutes). And you’ll hear this too most often from the fandom, and once again, we’re not wrong: the films and the story itself quickly get darker as the trio grows up.

What a great reaction!!! I was so happy and excited to see that you reacted to this movie. It was so fun and I hope you do continue. Each movie is a school year (except the last book was made into two movies) and it’s so interesting to see the kids grow and not just the three main characters, but we see Draco, Neville and some of the other side characters as well. At one point you mentioned that Hermione was doing everything and you have to think about the characters. Hermione grew up knowing she was a witch and she loves to read and is a big book worm who will read school books for pleasure. So she knows much more than Harry and Ron when the school year started. Harry never knew about being a wizard or magic, so this is all new for him and as the movies continue he uses magic more and more. I was so surprised to hear you call Ron arrogant. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone call him that before. Ron grew up with a lot of older siblings and was always getting the hand me downs. Draco teased him about that. Ron is the type of kid who’s not really into school and sometimes it takes him longer to learn things, but he is a very loyal friend to have. The other thing I like about the books and the movies are the lessons sprinkled throughout. I remember before the movies came out, I thought they were children’s books, but my older brother who was in his 30’s was reading the books and he got my mom and aunt to read them. I remember reading the first book and I couldn’t put it down. Unfortunately there is a lot that they had to leave out of the movies. Thanks again and I look forward to the next installment of the frac

aww these movies were my childhood. for awhile there (i think they switched to summer releases eventually) they came out over thanksgiving and me and my family would go and see them like a whole family tradition. i still have such a soft-spot for them and these characters. one thing that's so special is we got to grow up with them. we aged with them, and as we aged, the films aged too; growing more mature and deeper with each new release. it was a whole journey we went on and i'm happy you're experiencing that too now. i hope you continue the series just to see how the characters grow. i think a lot of questions you're having will get answered more with each film.

I can't wait! Part of me wishes I got to experience watching these with my family growing up since I was literally the target audience but oh well. Get to post them so ya'll get to relive it again.

Chris Columbus wanted Daniel Radcliffe for the role of Harry since he saw him in BBC's production of David Copperfield, which he starred in with some of his future co-stars in Harry Potter, like Dame Maggie Smith (McGonagall) and Zoë Wanamaker (Madame Hooch). J.K. Rowling approved of his casting, stating that they couldn't have found a better Harry. William Moseley, who was later cast as Peter Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia series, also auditioned for the role. Having seen an ad for open casting, Rupert Grint sent in a video of himself rapping about how much he wanted the part of Ron, and was successful. Emma Watson's Oxford theatre teacher passed her name on to the casting agents and she had to do over 5 interviews before she got the part of Hermione. Richard Harris only agreed to the part of Dumbledore after his 11 year old granddaughter threatened never to speak to him again. Tom Felton originally auditioned for Harry and Ron before getting the part of Draco. Robin Williams and Rosie O'Donnell asked to play the roles of Molly Weasley and Rubeus Hagrid respectively, without pay, but were turned down because J.K. Rowling wanted only British and Irish actors in the films. Rowling hand picked Robbie Coltrane, Dame Maggie Smith and Alan Rickman for their roles. Several minor characters were removed from the films, most prominently Peeves the poltergeist. Actor Rik Mayall was cast in the role but his scenes were ultimately cut and never released. J.K. Rowling has stated that the "t" in "Voldemort" is meant to be silent, like in "mort", the French word for death. Voldemort literally means "flight from death". Interesting fact: Daniel Radcliffe, who's eyes are blue, was initially meant to wear green contact lenses to match Harry's eye colour as well as his mother's, but the lenses gave him an allergic reaction so after consultation with Rowling, it was agreed that Harry could have blue eyes. However, he does have them in the last scene which was actually the first one that was filmed, and his green eyes are clearly visible in close-ups. In contrast, Ron has blue eyes in the book but Rupert Grint has green eyes.

I keep getting ads in the midst of the movie, anyone know how to make it stop? I love this series!!

KJ

Amazing and fun info, thanks! Robin Williams would have done amazing!!!

Ron's my fave book character but the movies did him dirty. In the books he is sarcastic, feisty and scraps with Malfoy at a moments notice haha. I think his character got the short change since he was more comedic in the books which is easy to cut for time when you need to trim something for a movie. My only knock on the movies TBH. Notably, Ron's insecurity is defined in the books as stemming from having 5 older brothers who are well known and talented, then makes friends with the most famous boy in their word. He normally handles it well enough.

I grew up with the HP books and the story holds a very special place in my heart. I have heard quite a few times, that kids and teens from christian families were forbidden to watch the movies/read the books. I dont understand why! I really dont!! I am not judging and i dont want to be mean, but can someone explain the reasoning behind that ban? I would like to maybe understand.

Jim Schmitz

Having started my HP journey with you, Oscar, I can only say it was a joyous beginning. Seeing that you did finish the series, I wonder if you'll continue on with the "Fantastic Beasts" trilogy.

Daniideee

Why can't I see this one? :(

Statmanjeff

Ditto. Now that I join3d up, why doesn't the film appear? (I was hoping to marathon on this series, but I can't.)
