This may have the most pay-offs for a franchise in one movie I have ever witnessed. The stakes felt unearthly and the loss of life was devastating. Simply an epic ending to a beautiful series. Enjoy :)

Hi Oscar, I’ll have to watch this tomorrow, but I hope you’ll react to the 20th anniversary special now that you’ve completed the movies

Lauren B

Saw this drop and immediately went to YouTube to make sure I hadn’t missed a video drop 😂 super super excited for this. Can’t wait to see what series is up on the docket next! I still vote Haunting of Hill House and/or Avatar the last Airbender 😝

Ali D

I can’t! It’s 2:30am! It’ll have to wait for tomorrow 😭😭😭

I don’t think I’ve ever seen you double-flip-off a character you hated that much in a movie like you did towards Voldemort with glee! No, not another essay this time. I just want to say I’m so glad I found you and that this journey from beginning to end has been wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. ❤️ (And I’d like to imagine a blend of Gandalf’s voice and yours whispering to me: “End? No, the journey doesn’t end here.”) You said: “I’d also like to read the books just to kind of create my own imagery of what’s happening in my head. Use my own imagination to create the images of what’s happening. So, yeah, we’ll see how that goes. I’ll probably read the books sometime soon, we’ll see how things go.” Well, any chance you might consider rolling back the grey rain-curtain of your beautiful mind and letting us witness your imagination turn Rowling’s words and pages to silver glass? Might we join you as you sail along the white shores and set your eyes upon the far green country that’s the wizarding world of Harry Potter? I guess I’m asking if you’d consider doing some kind of a book review on here, perhaps after each book, if not a full-fledged chapter-by-chapter commentary? Pretty please? 🤞🤓😀

This movie is the definition of epic. Even on a rewatch I’ll never get over Neville in the 11th hour just becoming the legend of all legends. Or the absolute unwavering fearlessness of Harry. Literally any scene just stays with you. And I gotta say, Alan Rickman was the PERFECT Snape…his performance honestly blew me away, especially in this film. Thank you for allowing us on this journey…these were so fun to revisit with you!

Oscar, you are so lucky that you were able to watch these over a short period, imagine having to wait a year or two in between each movie. The first one came out in 2001 and the last was 2011 and then another 10 years for the reunion. I have really enjoyed watching your reactions and seeing you get so immersed in the movies. That helps me to stay immersed as well. If you do decide to read the books, I hope you will involve us in some way. It's been a long time since I've read them and I can't remember the storylines that were left out of the movies. Maybe you can talk about those parts and let us know what you think... I dunno. :::::SPOILER ALERT - DO NOT READ BELOW UNLESS YOU HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE::::: Your reaction to Harry watching Snape's memories was priceless!! I couldn't wait for that scene after everything you'd been saying about him for the last couple of movies. After this last movie was released, Alan Rickman said that way back when they were preparing for the first movie, JK Rowling pulled him aside and told him what was going to happen with his character so that he could play it accordingly and she hadn't even written the books yet. He said that people always wondered why he portrayed Snape the way he did in the first few movies. I love the way he delivered his lines. Just masterful. There is a scene that was not in the final movie and I wish they had left it in because it would've made a huge difference. Harry is his Hagrid's arms playing dead and then we see him jump out of his arms and the very next scene is Harry using a wand to attack "Voldy" as you call him and the death eaters. What we don't see is that Draco actually says "Potter" to get his attention and tosses him the wand. Ever since the 6th movie when we see Draco fighting his conscious, you mentioned that you wanted to see Draco become good. That would have been a good redemption for him if they had kept it in. Did you see older Draco at the train station at the end sending his own kids on the train? Harry and Draco may have been mortal enemies, but Daniel and Tom were actually really good friends. I love that Neville was the one to slay the snake and be the hero, but part of me wishes that he had been the one to kill Bellatrix after what she had done to his parents. Did you know that the actor who played the bank goblin who wanted the sword also played a few of the other small Hogwarts professors over the course of the movies. He also played the Ewok who sits with Princess Leia in Return on the Jedi back in 1983 when he was a kid and he returned to play an Ewok more recently and brought his son to play one of the other Ewoks.

What a rollercoaster of a movie! All the action and emotion. It's a great end for a great franchise. I still remember seeing Snape's memories scene in cinema for the first time, being in tears and not believing what I just saw. It was incredible and I still feel emotional every rewatch. You should definitely watch the HBO Harry Potter Reunion. It's very sweet and fun to watch 😊

Mateusz

Thank you Oscar for these emotions experienced together! Generally, despite the fact that the film was broken into two parts, it was not possible to fit everything in it. Among others, The story of young Dumbledore has been tightly cut off. We do not find out, for example, that he and Grindelwald had an affair and that they were looking for the deathly hallows together. Attempts to get them were the cause of Dumbledore and Aberforth's disputes. During one of the barriers between the three, the wands were used and as a result, Ariana died, who was only an accidental witness. This ended the relationship between Dumbledore and Gellert and divided Dumbledore's brothers for many years. It was the scene of Ariana's death that saw Dumbledore when he drank an elixir in the Voldemort cave in the Half-Blood Prince. As for Draco and Harry, their relationships after the war were correct, they became colleagues at work, and their sons were friends. Harry also built a good relationship with Dudley and his children. 😊 This is only a small part of the information omitted in the films, but of course, there is much more. 😛 Thanks again for this series and the other movies so far and I am looking forward to the next ones! 😊

I’ve heard some reactors debate Gandalf or Dumbledore as the greatest wizard. What do you think Oscar?

John Hales

Oscar it has been a joy and pleasure to watch these along with you. I hadn't seen then in years and it was like seeing them all fresh again. Excellent reactions.

John Hales

PS As its spooky season coming I highly recommend The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix. It's scary, emotional and thought provoking. U will love it!!

The scene where Snape goes to Godric's Hollow and cries over Lily's dead body is not in the book. At the same time, some of Snape's memories included in the book that are not seen in the film, is Snape apologising to Lily for calling her a Mudblood and the revelation that Petunia wrote to Dumbledore in the hopes that she could attend Hogwarts. When she wasn't accepted she felt rejected by the wizarding world and therefore resented it, which only grew worse when Lily was killed. Petunia pretended to hate her sister when she was in fact just jealous and scared. Harry had realised this to an extent back in the 5th book when he told his aunt and uncle that Voldemort was back. Vernon had no idea who he was but Petunia immediately became terrified, and for the first time, Harry felt something of a connection with his aunt. At this moment, Harry realised that the magical world was more to Petunia than just a bunch of 'freaks'. It was a place that had taken her sister from her when she was a child, rejected her, humiliated her, and later took Lily away again for good. Petunia had tried to escape it and pretend that it didn't exist, but because of Lily she couldn't. She resented Harry so much because he reminded her of all of that. However, she did appear to care for him on some level. In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Petunia is mentioned as having died a few years after Harry's second son Albus Severus started studying at Hogwarts. It is revealed she kept the blanket Harry was wrapped in when he first arrived at the Dursley's, and after her death Dudley sent it back to him (Harry and Dudley would stay on "Christmas card" terms for the rest of their lives). While it's clear where Snape's loyalties lied, I keep seeing fans argue whether he was actually good or bad. But there is no simple answer because Snape is a VERY complex character. The way he treated Harry was arguably despicable. Even if it was because of James it doesn't excuse it, or explain his treatment of Neville and other students. He was a bitter person and a bully. But, he had played the double agent all this time and he did it all to save Harry, or more specifically, Lily's son. He had lost the love of his life because of his own mistake and hence was remorseful. He transformed and risked his life to save the boy for whom Lily had died. Snape, despite all his flaws, could love. He didn't need to show remorse or feel guilty for Voldemort CHOSE Harry and he had merely told him the prophecy. He didn't directly lead Voldemort to Harry. But the goodness in him made him feel remorse. He could easily have moved on but he chose to make amends. He did not even want anyone to know the truth and he might have died without letting anyone know if he could have. In other words, he did not want to be publicised and cheered for what he did, as it was only done for Lily. His love for Lily and his selfless act towards her son makes him good. The fact that he could love without having been loved makes him good. This next theory further proves Snape was good. Isn't a bit odd he puts up no defense at all when Nagini attacks him? In the HBP Snape makes an Unbreakable Vow to protect Draco, regardless of the danger to his own life. And when Voldemort tries to ask him who owns the Elder Wand, Snape says that it answers only to him. But Snape knows that the wand answers only to Draco. He has been Dumbledore's right-hand man for years and knows exactly how the wand works. Snape sacrifices his life because Voldemort thinks it belongs to him and kills him, but in the end it leads to his own defeat. At that point, Snape was facing a paradox. If he betrayed Draco he would be breaking his Unbreakable Vow. So if it had been anyone other than Draco he could have easily defended himself. But if he had escaped, Voldemort would have discovered the true owner of the Elder Wand sooner or later. So Snape was not only trying to save Harry but Draco as well. Not long after Alan Rickman started to play Severus Snape, J.K. Rowling told him, years ahead of the last book's publication, that Snape had been in love with Lily, and both his protection of, and antagonism toward Harry, came from that. She said she shared that with him because he needed to understand where this bitterness towards this boy, who's living proof of Lily's preference for another man (a man who had tormented him), came from. In the book Harry learns Dumbledore's darkest secret: That he may have killed his sister Ariana, or at least inadvertently caused her death. Ariana had trouble suppressing her magic as she accidentally killed their mother and required constant care and attention. In a duel between Dumbledore, his brother Aberforth, and Dumbledore's friend-turned-enemy Gellert Grindelwald (According to JKR, Dumbledore was gay and in love with Grindelwald), Ariana was killed, and none of them knew who cast the spell that caused her death. Harry and Voldemort's final duel plays out very differently in the book. It is a super intense confrontation in the Great Hall with EVERYONE watching. Harry shares the truth about Snape's sacrifice and the Elder Wand, before using a Disarming Charm to defeat Voldemort once and for all. His death is very human as he drops to the ground and leaves a body behind (they filmed that version: https://youtu.be/rFMxRv2Zaj0?si=7pYEUvBtE6wlvAbN). I remember being on the edge of my seat while reading this whole interaction. While the film version is more visually pleasing it just doesn't feel as intense or final. It also goes against the original point that without magic Voldemort died just like any other man, and he was never actually as special as he believed. That's probably what I am most mad about regarding the book-to-film adaptations. In the book Harry uses the Elder Wand to fix his and then returns it to Dumbledore's grave in hopes of dying of natural causes, which will leave the wand without a master and cause it to lose its power. While breaking it is surely safer, it makes no sense why he wouldn't at least fix his wand first, since the Elder Wand is the only wand capable of mending broken wands! JKR felt that in order to show the true devastation of war, someone's parent had to die. After briefly considering Mr. Weasley, she finally chose both Lupin and Tonks as it made their infant son Teddy an orphan, which closely mirrored infant Harry losing his parents in the previous war. In the book, Harry appropriately becomes Teddy's godfather. JKR says she always knew Hagrid would survive because she had always had an image of a grieving Hagrid carrying Harry's body back to Hogwarts, which was fitting, since it was Hagrid who carried him as a baby and also brought him into the wizarding world. Before the final book was published, Daniel Radcliffe asked JKR whether his character would die at the end. After some silence, she gave him the very cryptic answer "You get a death scene". JKR has explained why the part of Voldemort inside Harry wasn't destroyed when he was stabbed by the Basilisk fang: Because he had Fawkes the phoenix to heal him. So before he could be destroyed beyond repair, which is what is necessary to destroy a Horcrux, he was mended. Before the scene was shot where Hermione is pretending to be Bellatrix, Emma Watson acted out the scene for Helena Bonham Carter so she would know how to act as if she were Hermione in this situation. So, essentially, this scene is Helena acting like Emma acting as Hermione acting like Bellatrix. If you watch carefully in the duel between Snape and McGonagall, you can see Snape deflect a spell cast from McGonagall, purposefully killing the Death Eater twins the Carrows behind him. This foreshadows which side Snape was truly on. Voldemort hugging Draco was not scripted but an improvisation by Ralph Fiennes. Tom Felton's reaction of not knowing what to do is genuine. When Harry reveals that he is still alive, Draco was meant to betray the Death Eaters by throwing Harry his wand. The scene was filmed but not included in the final edit: https://youtu.be/V6m4vuT_pME?si=sYwtYueHmVskPSdD. I am still mad they didn't keep it in (or Harry and Dudley's interaction from Part 1). If you really want to cry: In the scene where Harry reveals himself to be alive and everyone reacts with joy, if you look closely at George you can see him turn to say 'Fred' before remembering that he is dead. Harry loses the ability to speak Parseltongue after Voldemort kills the Horcrux inside him. Harry and Ginny's kids' names are Albus Severus, James Sirius and Lily Luna. Ron and Hermione's kids' names are Rose and Hugo. In the book, Neville and Luna unfortunately both went on to marry other people but in my mind they ended up together.

A great finale! I really enjoyed your reactions Oscar. Even though I've seen it a few times, I still cry a few times during this one - and feel the tension and the triumph of the ending. When Ron 'remembers' the snake word for 'open' in the book, he remembers what Harry said to open the door in the "Chamber of Secrets" (which I think would have been a better line in the film). I also loved Snape's redemption arc - such a wonderfully ambiguous character. As far as Severus (and Draco's parents) unpleasant personalities, they were Slytherins lol. As Sirius Black once said, "The world isn't divided into good people and death eaters" - everyone is on a spectrum.

Okay, I finally finished watching this journey with you and I have to say, yours is my favorite reaction to this final movie. So much emotion, and you are the only reactor I’ve seen who has figured out that Draco was the master of the Elder Wand, and then subsequently Harry. Great deduction. As a fellow Christian who has encouraged my children’s interest in this series, I have to say that I believe this story to be a wonderful representation of selfless love and sacrifice for those you love, much like Christ’s love for us. Just something to mull over. 😉 I also recommend you watch this video. It’s fan-made and there are several using this song, but this is my favorite. I can share it with you now you’ve finished the series. https://youtu.be/DFBzZfxkWUg?si=9qLBi4U2AnThizO_

Michael Short

It may be hard to make a shy person angry, but they usually the scariest of all if you succeed. lol

Imnotacop

One small detail I've always noticed is that Voldi doesn't use the killing curse on Snape. You have to really want to do it in order to use that curse. There has to be an emotional "I'm more than okay with this," and Vold's constant use of the curse is kinda treated as special in the books, in that he isn't just a psychopath who doesn't care, but WANTS to use the curse. Except, he does use it on snape. He really didn't want to kill snape.

For more Harry Potter-esque fun, we should watch the Fantastic Beasts series. :)

Michael Short

When filming, Helena Bonham Carter took lessons from Emma Watson on acting like Hermione acting like Belatrix. lol

Jim Schmitz

Just like everyone above said...and, "Fantastic Beasts", please....

Jessi

Fantastic beasts movies when? All jokes aside you gotta watch those ones too!
