I found this one to be quite mature for a Disney film and some of the themes and characters were really haunting. Brilliant music and fantastic animation and a timeless message that worked fantastically in the historical context of this film. Enjoy :)

And the book is so much darker 😭 Victor Hugo (yep, like the gargoyles) was a truly brilliant and disturbed man.

One of the best Disney movies , first of all - it's disturbing and morbid . That's why I love it! Not so typical, not so happyending...

Defiantly disneys darkest movie with amazing music. You’d also like the last unicorn it’s from 1980 and is still amazingly buitifull.

Dobby's Sock

A little easter egg is that in the 2nd verse of "Out There" when the camera is zooming in on the townspeople, you can see Belle from Beauty and the Beast at the bottom of the screen walking while she reads her book 😌

I loved your reaction as always. Another fantastic film with a religious theme is Prince of Egypt, if you're collecting suggestions for next reactions (pretty pleeeaase). The music in particular is outstanding. I think you would like it.

Like someone already mentionned, the book is a lot darker. It's a classic that a lot of us have read in France. Its author, Victor Hugo, also wrote Les Miserables which is pretty famous in English speaking countries because of the musical I think. He would take inspiration in historical events to show the bad sides of society. It's nice to see such familiar stories for us becoming worldwide famous, even if it's through animation or american movies :-)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh IM SO EXITED FOR THIS

Rhetorical Thrill

If it makes you feel any better, Frollo wasn't part of the Church. He was a city official who considered himself devout, but he had no power in that arena.

the off-broadway musical version of this film is one of my all time favorites! excited to watch with you while eating dinner as always hehe

Shannen Den Hartog

This movie is a childhood gem of mine! Having no great memories of my childhood, this was a light beacon in the dark watching it :D Nostalgia here I cooome

Lisa - Marie

also two of the gargoyles were named after the author of hunchback of notre dame, victor hugo the other one was named after Laverne Andrews a popular singer at time.

Some of the best Disney music ever. I know they tried to bring this show to the Broadway stage, but it just didn't work out at the time. Maybe someday they'll find just the right way to stage it. The soundtrack for both the movie and the stage production is awesome though. I listen to it all the time. :)

Puns of War

So, in regards to the Gargoyles of the real Notre Dame, it's believed that they are the protectors of the cathedral. Prior to the Cathedral burning they were removed so they could renovate. It only caught fire after they were removed.

I love frollo he is such a good villain

i was verbally bullied as a child and 'the scene' brought the emotional trauma back. this was the one disney movie that i thought deserved a different rating. but even with that scene, the movie was excellent - the animation, music, the heart, the message .. i don't think it got the kudos it deserved.

There's a theory that I really like that the three gargoyles are all in Quazi's head. They never interact with anyone else and the only time they "influence" anything is the theatrical fight scene. And they don't really "change" anything there.
