loket all love bro, but i think you hyper focus too much on the lyrics and meaning behind each lyric in some of these reactions and it kind of holds you back from really enjoying the music for what it is as a whole. yes the lyrics are very important and there is a lot of meaning behind each song, but you should interpret them how you want on your first listen. i think this would be a better way to digest the album as a whole and really take in the song structures, production, vocals, and atmosphere created. when you try to understand the exact meaning behind every song or lyric on first listen, you take away from fully immersing yourself in every other aspect of the song, which is what these songs should really be enjoyed for and revisited for, not for their literal meaning. you can figure that out as you give it relistens and it’ll add extra layers for you as you go. i’d hate for you to now go into Imaginal Disk and try and dissect and genius every lyric rather than getting immersed in the incredible soundscapes. just my opinion tho. love the reactions regardless.

Cool on more Gorillaz! And it's perfectly fine that they aren't fully for you, I still appreciate you giving them a chance. Music is pretty subjective and at the end of the day, we all want to listen to stuff that sounds great and what is our flavor. Gorillaz is 100% for me. One thing you can't deny is that their style is unique and no one can really do it like them 😁

"Sweepstakes" is the only song that hasn't grown on me since this album came out haha. I skip "White Flag" a lot too. Hightlights for me are "Cloud of Unknowing", "Rhinestone Eyes", "Stylo", "Empire Ants", "Plastic Beach" & "Pirate Jet"

Empire ants is one of the best songs ever fr

The best part about this album and Demon Days is it gets better every listen, wasn’t sure about my first listen impressions either but once it clicks it never gets old fr

Tbh I wouldn’t worry about getting the lyrics on first listen. Nobody would expect to fully understand a dense poem on the first read or extract everything from a painting they just saw for the first time. Imo the most effective lyrics are lowkey cryptic / aren’t obvious at first but carry a lot of meaning, and when the dots connect on your 5th listen or something the song evolves iykyk
