You gotta listen to the OG version! All electronic drums, classic Neptunes sound

JM

I loved OG "Run To The Sun" and album not realizing there was a difference until this hit streaming. You're right, the original sounds more like their sound while the album version sounds kinda generic.

JM

The Neptunes were writing/producing at a crazy clip -- there was an article saying they had produced about 40% of radio hits by 2003 😲 They decided to record their own album with a live band and their friend, Shae(guy on the cover), and we got N.E.R.D. The songs you didn't like are for sure the weaker songs on this project, and in their discography. Their next album, Fly or Die, is more calm and has songs similar to the ones you liked. 27:14 -> "In Search Of did more for me than Illmatic" - Tyler on DEATHCAMP

You ask about Tyler being inspired by NERD, he literally has a line in his song DEATHCAMP “In search Of did more for me than illmatic”
