Allow me to say this, I have seen clips of the recent animated Bible films such as "Light of The World" and "King of Kings", I will give credit where credit is due.
Animation for the Christian Film industry as improved significantly in the past few years. Both 3D and 2D animation has become less janky and more smooth and vibrant as we progress with technology and talent.
However...
You guys guys know me, there's always a huge "BUT" in there somewhere when it comes to my Christian Film "Critiques".
The stories are solid, the animation may be gold standard however... Characters are still LACKING. This "Jesus" despite being placed on a level children can understand is still lacking that "UMPH" that makes him a person. He is still divorced from relatable struggle and personal input towards his own situation, as if there is a glass wall between himself and audience still; and the more we keep that element of divinity or what we think what divinity is in the equation the more shatter proof that glass is.
There is a void in Jesus as a character and it is due to how far away he is from his Mother Culture, and it's obvious he needs to back to Judaic culture. Unfortunately, that will sacrifice the Idol of Jesus and resurrect the R. Yehoshua Bar'Yosef. Both cannot co-exist - it's either one or the other. There is no in between nor compromise. The only "close" interpretation of Jesus we've had so far was "Passion of The Christ" in 2004 - the evidence of the impact was the Middle East hearing of it due to good and bad publicity of which I will refrain from going into. The attention to authenticity was there in the language, but Judaic culture was somewhat ignored... and it's still being ignored.
So, with that being said the gaping hole in Christianity is becoming more and more apparent by the generation. You guys may progress creatively, you may use technology to its advantage, and I will applaud you for that for being the most technologically advanced religious group. However, the missing puzzle piece is becoming more and more obvious. I hate to be Jigsaw to you by pointing out the said missing piece to your survival, but it's true and the contributing factor as to why you are losing followers or members. You cling onto the icon more than the man still not matter how hard you work on improving your arts.
Now, I am not inviting the thought of comparing "Rose of Sharon" to "King of Kings" or "Light of the World" - we each have our own paths. Those two films want to take a child's understanding approach to the Bible, and we with "Rose of Sharon" want to be a satire for the adults who walked away from religion. "Rose of Sharon" is not fit to be compared to those two films. However, when you boil down to it: Joshua vs. Jesus in either of these films ... I leave that to you all.
