We want you to help us pick the next animal or bird to become a Humblewood race!

First, share what animals and birds you'd like to see in the comments below. Then we'll gather all the suggestions and make a poll for all of you to vote on. The winner of that poll will get the Humblewood treatment as May's playtest.

Some points to keep in mind:

Don't get too specific, but do give examples. Eg. "Flamingos" is too specific, but "Wading birds (for example flamingos and storks)" is helpful!

You can suggest more than one animal!

Some of your suggestions might already be in the works so those won't go forward to the poll, but you'll see them soon!

Ben Romano

Octopi, squid, and other cephalopods (admittedly a bit off the beaten path for standard animal fantasy but would be cool nonetheless)

Mackenzie Gardner

Anything from the canine family: wolf, bear, coyote (especially coyote), domestic dog, etc

Deathbystraw15

Honestly seeing a dog folk to match the cat folk already present would be cool. It's a bit basic, but hey, who doesn't like doggos? Plus by dogs I mean any sorta canid, doesn't have to be domestic.

Kay

Reptiles and more amphibians!

Griffyngrove

Maybe some aquatic species could be interesting, like turtles, sea slugs, and fish! I’d also really like to see a frog/amphibian race (even though we just got pexians)!

Paul Blank

I don't believe forms of batfolk have been touched upon in HW yet.

Aidan Bee

Bats please? All sorts!

Luis M

1. Squirrels — anything in that niche including gliders like flying squirrels and sugar gliders. They’re a staple of anthro fantasy! 2. Mustels probably cover badgers as well as wolverines, so just more badger art would be great. 3. Mapach sub-races or alternative art would be cool, too. Coatis, red pandas… opossums? Everything in that tree-climbing trash goblin zone.

Charlie Cowan

Waterfowl! It feels bizarre that there isn't an easy translation to make a duck in Humblewood yet!

Neight Gallenbeck

Marine/aquatic mammals (most specifically otters)

Karlee Mello

I would really love some more classic woodland animals! rabbits, squirrels, bears, etc.

Ursa

I know bats/flying mammals are one of my top picks for sure, but I'd also be super interested in pinnipeds! Various seals, sea lions, etc!

Erikku-Kun

I would suggest: Canines (more wolf like or even hyenas though I know they are not canine) Diving Birds (like puffins) More Rodents Desert Lizards Anteaters Chameleon Crocodilians

sionnachsSkulk

Mole people! The concept of folk who burrow underground juxtaposed with the prominent birdfolk culture would be so fascinating. Also very interested in bats, bears, and otters.

Trent Kelly

1) squirrel type creatures could also cover sugar gliders for a airborn variant 2) rabbit like creatures 3) bears 4) canine creatures 5) water birds, there's saltars port but no aquatic birds. Seagulls, ducks, etc 6) water mammals such as otters and beavers 7) snake people 8) marsupials 9) invertebrates such as bug people and crabs 10) badgers. There's mapach but badgers are burrowers and also big and strong. This could also cover something like wombats 11) airborn mammals such as sugar gliders and bats 12) possums 13) anurian such as frogs and toads 14) rats I currently flavor use all of the above in my long running campaign but it would be nice to have official content for these

Dazzah!

Bats, bears, moles, KOALA!

Sybil Chapados

My number one picks are bats (non-Birdfolk with the Glide trait~?) and anteaters/tamanduas!

Eric Udy

Bats or squirrels I think would be cool! Maybe Otters!

Nikki Middleton

Tall birds like ostriches and storks, maybe with a fighting subrace like cassowary? Could also have a holy link to Ardea somehow.

Kali

I'm running a Humblewood campaign and these are some species my players really wanted to see: bats, badgers (mustel subrace?), opossums, squirrels, and skunks! Personally I'd love to get aquatic bird species, I think waterfowl could be their own species made up of geese/ducks/swans. Maybe another group of seafaring birds like seagulls, albatross, pelicans? For my group I homebrewed a birdfolk subrace for long-legged terrestrial birds like secretarybirds, cassowaries, and emus, and one of my players is playing as a homebrewed rabbit/hare race, which I'd love to see as well!

The Kobold Guild

In my campaigns we have an Otter, so maybe a water-based mustel-like race which could include beavers, capybara etc. For the otter we used the mapach as a base and added that The otter has a swim speed that is half of their walking speed and can hold their breath underwater for 5mins.

Cobalt Kobold

As a kobold enthusiast, I say more lizards! I really liked the Tilia race

Kyle Hutchings

Bears would make for interesting Druids or Barbarians (Totem). Bat is a solid choice, 1st non-bird glider. Maybe a distinction for Squirrels, like Jerbeen but with a climbing speed, possibly glide for flying squirrels. Frog would be good, amphibious features with a solid jump distance. Poison Toad for Rogue Assassin? There is a list of possible species on World Anvil, I always assumed it was an unfinished work document from the HW designers.

Sienna Hickox

Frogs Toads Stoats Otters Rabbits Squirrels Salamanders

Lauren Hubbard

Bears, please!!! That's our #1. Sub-races for Jerbeen or Mapach for more specifics re: rabbits, squirrels, skunks, opossums, moles, etc. Waterfowl and aquatic (and semi-aquatic) creatures would be awesome, too. Also, yes to bats!

Ruekia

Bats would be awesome!

Francisco Vitor

Flying Squirrel, red pandas, any type of monkeys, otters and the coolest of all the Platypus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Test Test Testing

Honestly loved the example suggestion of wading birds!! Also, are there any existing full aquatics? Eels, fishes, octopods?

David Wills

I would like to see a bear I have a player wanting to be one.

Mike Thornton

a larval amphibian like a tadpole

Quinn Nolan

Rabbit folk, boar, and Ursidae, frogs please and have had players interested in moles, bats, and opossums

Argent

I’m playing a Stoat-folk character in my current campaign, I love weasels and ferrets and similar animals and would love to see a professionally made version of the species!

AzeezVeesk

Bats!! (Vespertilionidae could be shortened into the race name) Have a lot of potential to be written in interesting ways and could have some nice lore that makes them hard to differentiate as either Birdfolk or Humble :)

Mat Jepson

Ooo ya, Marsupials. Or maybe penguins? There are many kinds of penguins.

Tony Rados

I’d really love to see something of an animal spirit option, something a bit mystical and mythical like a kitsune or other yokai shapeshifters as a character option. Thinking like a humblewood Genasi character?

Mathew Smith

I would love to see bats in the game so I could have a blood hunter bat in my games :D

Brian Ells

Marsupials - Kangaroo, Tasmanian Devils Swine - Pigs, Boars, Warthogs Cephalopods - Octopi, Squid, Cuttlefish

Kate Blakely

a player suggested giraffe! Which I know is super specific, but... giraffes!!! <3

Lindsey Thurwanger

Pinnipedia (seals, sea lion), turtles, snakes, more desert-like creatures, another mapach and vulpin variant
