This year you voted for crabs and squirrels to join the party! As we start planning for next year, what animal do you want to see hop, slither, skitter, or flap their way into Humblewood?

Share you thoughts in the comments below!

We'll use your ideas to make the next poll for patrons to vote on soon.

And here's a sneak preview of one of the squirrely esquiroy who will be jumping into the fray in next month in the November 2026 playtest!

Either elephants or a cassowary race. I love Loxodon but I think there is more space to really have a fun elephant or mammoth race. And Cassowary are just fun, it is a beautiful murder bird.

sionnachsSkulk

What a cute little guy! I'm gonna second the request for large flightless birds, ostritch, emu and cassowaries! Edited because I somehow missed the Talpo release back in February

Rhiannon

Every time this question gets brought up I suddenly forget every animal in existence.

Rhiannon

To piggyback off this suggestion, larger bird breeds like Ostriches and Emus would be really cool!

Gavin Downing

I'd love to see Possums, even if they're just a subtype of the Mapach. (And we do have moles! The Talpo are here in the Patreon files!)

sionnachsSkulk

AUGH oh my gosh how did I miss that one! Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

sionnachsSkulk

Thank you! I somehow missed that earlier.

Kitsumara

Did the squirrel ever get done?

Hit Point Press

Sounds like a good excuse to do a binge of David Attenborough documentaries! 😆

Rhiannon

I think you might be on to something. 😏

Rhiannon

I suddenly remembered an animal. A Chameleon race would go crazy. 🔥

Jason Kivela

Snakes! Unsure how they would look with limbs though...

Hit Point Press

💪🐍 This has been the subject of many passionate discussions in the office!

Hare Blix

Proper rabbits 😉

Jason Kivela

I always liked the snake battle beast from the 1980s toys. A big snake head and a smaller snake for each arm.

Kargon Coppercoin

Im still hoping for small flightless birds like the kiwi or the kakapo

Cobalt Kobold

I'm a little behind, did those cool lizard guys ever get official?

Kasia

I have a few animals in mind. Cuckoo, Cicada, and Snail. Or maybe even a skunk

jason gress

I dont know if size matters but maybe a horse or bison type race.

Yaiinactive

I’d love to see hyenas :0! Unless they count as an existing species already?

Staci Stubbs

Songbirds of some sort? Cardinals? Opossum.

GRV 01

Yes! Many of you already know what im voting for and it's FLIGHTLESS BIRDS!

Kira Laughlin

I will keep saying this until it happens. Giraffe

Blue-footed booby (it's a bird)

I second both of those! I used to play a Loxodon knowledge cleric with the Sage/Librarian background, whose main motivation for adventuring was to rescue rare books. By consensus of the other players, she had to wear a cardigan (no matter how anachronistic) and a pair of reading glasses perched on her trunk…

Bats were done in the October 2025 playtest…

RABBITS! Please! (Please fill in the backlog of missing species before moving on—like the squirrels finally coming next month (yay!), rabbits (temperate bunnies and wild-eyed desert hares as two variants), skunks, possums, proper wolves. Since Canopy won’t be physically in our hands or stores for another few months, you can justify focusing on these as finishing out the big forest animal gaps in the Humblewood environment before moving on to other parts of the world.) Thank you for asking!

Blair

Also, in case you hadn’t worked this in already, please make two variants of squirrel: ‘regular’ ground squirrels and flying squirrels (squirrels with Glide). 🐿️

CamunonZ

Do you guys have vampire bats already?

Kuponut

Birds from the Paridae family. (tits, chickadees, titmice, etc)

Gavin Downing

I was thinking more American possums, but Australian ones could be fun, too.

Gavin Downing

The Vesper in the Patreon files have bats, which can include Vampire Bats.

Gavin Downing

Lunin in the Patreon files are wolves!

Amy Kauffman

Not sure if any of these have been suggested: Monkeys and apes Vultures (natural born necromancers anyone?) Wolves. I don't think they work well as a vulpin variant, because I imagine their society and dispositions would be very different.

James Battle

Every one in Robin Hood, Narnia, and Redwall

DM_Pro

My favorite animal is the bison, so I would like to see that!

Plume

Platypus !

Blair

Hi! Strictly speaking, the Lunin are dogs—even the Wildheart subtype reflect wild dogs—but I understand why your mind went there for wolves!

K

Aye-ayes!

Josh San Miguel

TURTLES!!! I several hombrewed for my current campaign set 100 years into the future

tree_hugger00

Dream, for me, would be Opossums, Skunks and Beavers! I think some could easily be subspecies (Opossum - Mapach and Skunk - Mustel) but also new species could be awesome!!

Hit Point Press

The tilia in Humblewood: Beyond the Canopy are based on geckos and can also work for other lizards! But the reptile space is fun to play in!

Hit Point Press

Wolves are currently covered under the Wildheart Lunin!

Hit Point Press

Wait and see! The squirrels coming next month have three sub-species 😉

Hit Point Press

The Wildhearts are intended to include wolves, though they can cover wild dogs too. When designing species, we think about ecological niches more than strict biological taxonomy. Of course, if you want them to be only wild dogs, that's fine for your Humblewood.

Hit Point Press

Yep, they are in Humblewood: Beyond the Canopy! Though only the forest sub-species. We'd like to revisit desert lizards in a book that covers that biome!

Matt Blakeley

Possums are the best. Definitely possums.
