The billions of dollars the dept is funded with can be reallocated to other parts of our cities ...for ex,so that when there's a mental health crisis the cops don't know how to descalate, a mental health worker can handle the situation first so that an autistic child having an episode in the street and his care taker don't both get shot by police who don't know what else to do (looking at you again FNB Florida). Cops have way too much on their plate. Cops are called for everything from a cat in a tree to an actual murder and everything in between and if we funded other departments better (including their descalation training), we'll have much better results. cancel culture definitely is corny and i’m not a proponent of it. however, yanni makes it the focal point of a lot of issues when it’s really not the true issue in a lot of cases. and the people on the ground at the protests ARE organized, they ARE demanding realistic changes, but it’s drowned out by the media complaining about broken windows and people yelling at cops. then people like yanni echo that same bullshit and it just obscured the real issue and perpetuates the state’s approved narrative of “these aren’t legitimate protests/concerns because people are throwing water bottles at cops.” here’s the thing, this whole has been very organized since the beginning, it has been for years. if it wasn’t it wouldn’t have continued this long. it’s going on all over the country (and the world) nonstop. this has been the single biggest civil rights demonstration in history. and yanni just keeps acting like it’s nothing and that all these people are just out there crying about someone calling aoc a bitch. that’s not what any of this is about. people are just tired of other citizens being murdered by police with impunity. yanni (and chrissy a lot of times) says some real ignorant, uninformed shit about all the protests when they just really don’t understand. i know yanni likes to tout his history as a social worker as a show that he’s sympathetic to disadvantaged people’s plight, but it’s transparent. he has no desire to see justice truly done. he just wants things to “go back to normal.” and that’s not something the people are willing to accept because normal isn’t working for our communities. but since it doesn’t affect yanni personally, he can demonize it and shit on it all day long and make it seem like cancel culture is the real enemy of the free people because he’s an entertainer and it’s what does affect him. but the very real threat to the free people is state sanctioned violence and a militarized police force that criminalizes poverty, homelessness, and all too often, being black. “the left” in america isn’t run by anyone on the left, in all honesty. like i said earlier, american politics have been pushed violently to the right going as far, and ever farther back than reagan. so the people in charge on the american left are really just the middle republicans of decades past. true leftists don’t want those people. nobody is out here stoked about joe biden or pelosi, they all suck. people on the left just want cops to be held accountable when they do wrong. and to do that you have to tear down an entire system that is built around them to ensure that they aren’t. all i’m really getting at is that yanni (and oftentimes chrissy) both tend to minimize the actual importance and successes of this movement so they can shrug it off and hope it goes away so they can get back to their normal. and that’s just what it is.
