It's time for some more Silver Age goodness! Deadman is a vibe and I can't wait to see him hopefully return to solve the mystery behind his killer's identity, and why they killed him. More Blue Beetle and Green Lanterns is always a good time, too! Loved the twist in the Blue Beetle episode. Journey to the Center of the Bat was just pure FUN and I love that the Brain appeared!

Drop your thoughts below and enjoy the ride!

Deadman is indeed a real DC character and they pretty much gave the whole rundown on him. Former acrobat named Boston Brand who was killed by an unknown hooked assailant who now fights crime from the spectral plane, searching for his killer. He often works with the Justice League Dark and other associated characters like Zatanna and Constantine. I like how Jaime’s first episode was “The Rise of the Blue Beetle” and this was “The Fall of the Blue Beetle”. I also love Ted and Bruce’s back and forth, nerding out about tech lol. In a way, Ted being denied the scarab after his mentor really showed how much of a hero he could still be without it. The reveal that it’s actually Jarvis Kord is kinda obvious when you consider that the flashback was only two years ago, and yet “Ted” here is an old man. The second, older suit in Ted’s lair was actually that of the original Blue Beetle on Earth, Dan Garrett, who utilized the Scarab after finding it in Egypt, and who was also Ted Kord’s mentor. Garrett’s Blue Beetle is a very old character and actually predates DC as a company if I remember correctly. This specific Atom is Ryan Choi, a protégé of Ray Palmer, the first Silver Age Atom with subatomic capabilities. Before even those two was the Golden Age hero named Al Pratt, a hyper strong bantamweight boxer who originally held the title of the Atom, and who was an original member of the JSA alongside Wildcat and others. “They’re replicating!” “Yes, and they’re making more of themselves too!” 🙏😭 Chemo is a pretty cut and dry monstrous villain, a sentient mass of toxic, radioactive waste who represents pollution and decay, typically an adversary of the Metal Men (unrelated to the Brain). Peak Brain appearance, the way he just fell over lmaooo Wotan is the archenemy of Doctor Fate, an immortal, reincarnating, dimension-hopping master of all sorcery both ancient and modern, his real deep-seated rivalry being with Nabu, the ancient entity who possesses the Helmet of Fate. Nabu is typically the one somewhat in control when the helmet is worn, kind of overriding wearer and archaeologist Kent Belson. Dr Fate is yet another original member of the Golden Age JSA. Despero is a powerful alien conqueror from the planet Kalanor. He was originally outcast from his home and ended up obtaining his psionic abilities from the Flame of Py’Tar. He is an enemy of both the Justice League and the Green Lantern Corps. There are many Lantern Corps, though prior to the 2000s, there was only the Green Lantern Corps and the one singular yellow ring held by Sinestro. White Corps (life), Red Corps (rage), Orange Corps (greed), Yellow/Sinestro Corps (fear), Green Corps (will), Blue Corps (hope), Indigo Corps (compassion), Pink/Star Sapphire Corps (love), Black Corps (death), Ultra-Violet Corps (repressed emotions), etc.

Dawn of the Deadman is one of my favorite episodes of all time, and I'm glad you liked it too. Now for the bad news. Not every hero in this show gets an arc. Some are just one-offs and unfortunately Deadman is one of them. Still, since you were curious, I'll tell you who killed him and why. In the comics, the man with the hook hand is appropriately named the Hook. Basically, killing Bostan was his initiation into the League of Shadows. Apparently, killing an acrobat in midair was meant to be a test of skill.

Anriku

Thats crazy. Just shoot a flying disk or bird? Damn. Poor guy.

Anriku

Couldn't agree more with all of what you said. The Brain appearance was one of my favorites.

JD Dumas

Agreed. But the Hook got what was coming to him. See, when Ra's al Ghul learned that Deadman was Boston Brand, he erroneously thought that the Hook had failed to kill his target and had him executed.

its a bit of a deep cut but the circus Deadman mentioned Haly's circus is also the same circus that Dick Grayson and his family performed for before their deaths

Anriku

🤣 🤣 🤣 Good. Reap what you sow. Ironic too.

Anriku

You know what? Somewhere deep in my memory I knew that was his circus. XD

They're assassins, so testing the ability to kill someone would have to be part of any test. Destroying a bird midair is not the same as killing a person midair, and it's the skill at murder they are interested in.

Anriku

I understand the logic behind testing their capacity to kill. I just don’t think the skill comparison really holds up. Hitting a bird mid-air would arguably take more precision than hitting a person, which is why I made that point.

Baby Face and his gang are new characters created for this cartoon. Elongated Man was created in the early Silver Age because the writer of Flash at the time didn’t realize DC had acquired Plastic Man. Still, they are pretty different. Plaz is basically immortal and nearly indestructible, and his shapeshifting is pretty limitless other than his color scheme. Elongated Man uses a chemical he distilled and his powers are far more limited. He’s stretchy and the world’s greatest contortionist, but can’t shapeshifting (but adaptations including this cartoon forget that). He’s also more of a PI than a superhero, and is usually equal partners with his non-powered wife (when she isn’t dead).

Coming a little late, but Kamandi the last boy on Earth is a rather obscure DC character that only ran for a few years in the 70's. To say few people have ever even heard of him is an understatement. He exists because DC wanted to publish a Planet of the Apes comic, but couldn't get the rights, so they came up with something similar. Rats and dogs and such instead of apes, of course.
