Back to the anthromorphic future and it was just as fun as the rest of this series has been. It was awesome seeing Grodd come into play, honestly it made perfect sense for him to be at the center of all that chaos. The future setting always brings such a wild energy, and I’m loving how creative this show gets with it.

Now I’ve gotta wonder, are we going to see Kamandi pop up in the present at some point? That would be such a cool twist.

Drop your thoughts below and enjoy the ride!

Mister Miracle (Scott Free) is a New God, originally born on the planet New Genesis, and is known as the “god of freedom”. At the time of his birth, there was an active conflict between the two New God planets of New Genesis and Apokolips. In order to strike a peace treaty, a deal was made between the leaders of the two planets: Scotts’ father, Highfather, and the leader of Apokolips, Darkseid. The two would switch their infant sons to be raised by the other, the ultimate act of peace. Scott was given to be raised by Darkseid, while Darkseid gave Highfather his own son, Orion (later known as the “dog of war”). Orion got a great life while Scott got the short end of the stick. Eventually wanting to escape Apokolips and Darkseid forever, Scott taught himself to become the ultimate escape artist, therefore donning the name Mister Miracle, and used those skills to escape and become a hero on earth. He has all the strength and feats of a New God and uses NG technology like Boom Tubes in his artistry. Big Barda, to make things short, was originally a New God from Apokolips who was chosen from childhood to becoming one of Granny Goodness’s (an ironic name, given her cruelty) furies, an elite small army of female warriors. Eventually she met Mister Miracle, gradually falling in love with him, until she eventually chose to betray Apokolips and help Scott escape, tagging along with him to Earth and marrying him. Kamandi’s future is plain and simply the future. A lot of people tend to misconstrue the difference between timelines and dimensions. Every dimension has its own timeline and timeline variations are contained within their own respective reality. Kamandi was raised in a bunker by his grandfather, the former hero OMAC, and eventually ventured out into the world to explore a planet now taken over by sentient, evolved animals, finding allies such as the dog professor and the tiger prince, as well as searching for other humans.

The only thing I know about Kamandi, aside from what I learned in this show, is that the series was written in a time when the threat of nuclear war was a genuine concern. So a lot of post-apocalyptic world stories cropped up during that time.

Soooo... Batman's future earth is anthromorphic? Cool. Is there any shows that go into the New God's?

Makes sense. The times influencing fiction. Would be cool to see him in the present time.

Nothing specific, but there’s plenty of media that covers them. The upcoming Mister Miracle DCU series, of course, but STAS featured Darkseid and Apokolips heavily, alongside Orion and others, and then JL animated season two had the Twilight duology in which the JL had to mediate a conflict between New Genesis and Apokolips. Darkseid is the New God that’s always going to show up in anything, so it’s hard to not be in his shadow.

Superman the Animated Series went into a little bit. But I hear Mr. Miracle is getting his own series sometime next year.
