I guess we’ll be seeing Batman call Catwoman in the future after that teaser. But man, I really enjoyed the main episode. It was cool getting a glimpse into each of the Outsiders’ pasts and seeing them get a bit more characterization.

Drop your thoughts below and enjoy the ride!

Since the Outsiders were reimagined as teenagers, their comic book origins wouldn't work for this show, but I'll give you a brief rundown just for context. Katana aka Tatsu Yamashiro was just an ordinary wife and mother, until her husband and children were murdered by her jealous ex-boyfriend Takeo, who also happened to be in the yakuza. Takeo used a mystic sword called the Soul Taker to imprison the spirits of her family, but she managed to steal it and escape with her life. She later found a sensei to train her in the ways of the samurai so she could get her revenge. Black Lightning aka Jefferson Pierce had to overcome a lot in his early life, including racial stigma, being born with superpowers and the death of his father. But it never broke him. Despite growing up in Suicide Slum, the roughest part of Metropolis, he overcame everything life threw at him and became a respectable member of society. He got married, had two kids and even became the principal of his old high school. In fact, he initially only adopted the Black Lightning persona to stand up to ruthless gang called the 100, which was destroying his neighborhood. Metamorpho aka Rex Mason was a mercenary who worked for a sleazy businessman named Simon Stagg. When Stagg found out Mason was romantically involved with his daughter Sapphire, he tried to have him killed. Stagg sent Mason to Egypt, on the pretense of collecting a priceless artifact from an ancient tomb, but in reality the artifact was a radioactive meteor. The plan was to lock Mason in the tomb and let the radiation kill him, but instead the meteor gave him amazing transformative powers, while also giving him an inhuman appearance.

Pretty sure that's exactly what the CW show adapted for Black Lightning from the little I know of it. Didn't Metamorpho have a daughter or did they do that just in the new Superman movie?

I was burned out on the Arrowverse by the time Black Lightning started airing, but I'll take your word for it. I vaguely remember reading something about Metamorpho having a child in the old Batman and the Outsider comics, but I don't remember if it was a boy or girl.
