This was a really cool episode diving into Batman’s struggle between vengeance and justice, with two cosmic entities pulling the strings. Definitely an intriguing one.

Drop your thoughts below and enjoy the ride!

Adam West isn’t the only legendary voice actor in this episode, Phantom Stranger is voiced by Kevin Conroy while Spectre’s voiced by Mark Hamill.

That's amazing. I'm not familiar enough with Conroy's work to recognize his voice. I'm surprised I didn't recognize Hamill, though.

KrakenKing

You’ll be well and truly familiar with Conroy in the future. 😉

Dinamo89

He voiced Alien X's Voice of Chaos and Agression, Also Alien Batman in Pervious episode who also was modeled on his animated look (Aside from color he looks like OG animated Batman and Bruce).

Yes, the episode I’ve been waiting for! So excited to see your reaction, haven’t had the chance to watch it yet

The Spectre is partially a demon named Aztar, who originally rebelled against the Presence (quite literally God in DC), but in the end sought forgiveness, for which God granted Aztar a special role. Aztar would become the divine entity known as the Spectre, an immensely powerful being who represents vengeance on behalf of God himself. The Spectre must bind himself to a human host so that he may walk the Earth and be aided in judging the transgressions of man. The man we see here, often the main host of the Spectre, is James “Jim” Corrigan, a GCPD officer who Aztar possessed after his murder. Corrigan’s Spectre is actually an original JSA member as well, objectively the most powerful member in the team’s history. The Phantom Stranger has never ever been given a true, definitive origin, intentionally so. To date, he has at least five completely contradictory backstories and any could be true or none at all. All we know is that he is divine entity who acts as a servant of God, a guide for mortals in times of crisis, slowing giving penance to God as punishment for some grave act. In fact, the Phantom Stranger’s latest supposed origin, given during the New 52 age, claims that he is Judas Iscariot himself, the man who betrayed Jesus Christ. In this canon, Judas was judged by the Trinity of Sin and forced to forever walk the earth as a ‘stranger’ to humanity. He wears a necklace with 30 pieces of silver seared into his skin. As he atones for his sins by acting as a guide, the pieces slowly fall off. Of course, this could just be another red herring origin, but it’s the latest one proposed. This is by and large my favorite episode in the entire series. This view into Batman’s psyche, thoughts, and past is just chilling (no pun intended) to me, yet it also provides some closure in a way. Hearing Adam West, Kevin Conroy, and Mark Hamill together at one time is a treasure that we had never gotten before, nor will we ever get again, and it genuinely makes me so happy as a fan of Batman and DC. RIP Adam West and Kevin Conroy, they were legends.

This is arguably the best episode of the entire series. While not everyone's favorite, it often shows up in people's Top 5. This episode is actually a partial adaptation of a real Batman story from the Golden Age. Batman #47, which released in June 1948. In that story, Phantom Stranger and Spectre weren't present, and it was Chill's own henchmen who tried to kill him after he revealed he was responsible for creating Batman. They really pulled out all the stops with the voice cast in this one. As you noted, Adam West voiced Thomas Wayne. Martha Wayne was voiced by Julie Newmar (one of the actresses who played Catwoman on the Adam West Batman). Phantom Stranger was voiced by Kevin Conroy; Spectre was voiced Mark Hamill. Even Lew Moxon, the old gangster who hired Chill to kill the Waynes, was voiced by Richard Moll, the voice of Two-Face in Btas.

Anriku

So much VA talent in one episode. I can't wait to get more familiar with Conroy.

JD Dumas

I'm sure Btas will blow you away.

KrakenKing

How did I not realize that that was Moll? I should recognize that low, gravely voice anywhere.

KrakenKing

I have so much trivia to share when he gets to that series lol

RWBYReactVerse

This was the episode I was waiting for him to get to, but his reaction was not as good as I was expecting

Anriku

I get the hype for the episode, but I’m always going to react naturally, not force a reaction to match expectations. That’s what you’re getting here.
