The cold open for this episode is ripped straight from one of Batman's most famous Silver Age adventures. Most people are familiar with the flying pyromaniac Firefly, but that version didn't exist until the 90s. Prior to that, Firefly's gimmick was light manipulation. Don't worry about Joker, he'll be back. ;)

I theory, maybe. But in practice, not so much. OG Firefly was kind of a loser, outside of the story with the rainbow monster.

Laughing Fish cameo in Bat-Mite’s shrine, one of the greatest BTAS episodes. The multi-colored suits, culminating in the rainbow suit, were part of an original Silver Age story where Robin had gotten a broken arm, so Batman wore a different brightly colored suit every night to distract criminals from Robin’s healing injury (the reasoning was repurposed here to instead combat a light manipulating Silver Age Firefly, who was reinvented as a pyromaniac in the 90s). A ton of the lines in the prologue story were direct comic quotes. The Rainbow Creature was also a from a separate comic, which was combined with this to fit the theme. Whoever claimed that this was for pride stuff either didn’t know the history of the suits at all, or just appropriated them to their liking.

I always like how Jokers ego is always his undoing. Even in the animated series and beyond his biggest fear is being a nobody or an average joe. 😂
