Killer Croc makes his debut, and he definitely didn't disappoint! I do wish we got a bit more of his backstory, but there was enough there to understand who he is and what drives him. I also really enjoyed the dynamic between Batman and Bullock, and I hope we see them team up in the future.

Drop your thoughts below and enjoy the ride!

Killer Croc had only been around as a character for roughly a decade when ‘Vendetta’ was written. He debuted in February 1983, first with a shadowy cameo at the end of Detective Comics #523, followed shortly after in March by his first true full appearance in Batman #357 (this was also the debut comic of Jason Todd as Robin). Because Killer Croc was such a relatively new character, the writer’s team didn’t necessarily have a whole lot of preexisting stories to work with, but it also meant that there wasn’t decades of obscure and convoluted stories and character lore that they’d have to sift through and cherry pick to make their definitive version of the character. This made the writers’ work quite easy, simply alluding to Croc’s already established origins and making him some scary muscle without anything too deep. A brief crash course on Killer Croc’s original lore: Waylon Jones was born in the American South and as a child developed a chronic skin condition resembling a kind of extreme epidermolytic hyperkeratosis, which made his skin hard and scaly. He was raised by his abusive aunt, who treated him like a freak, as did his classmates. Eventually, Waylon ran away and joined some kind of circus or small wrestling organization (depending on the version; he also sometimes wrestled alligators instead of people) and gained the name Killer Croc as part of his act. This didn’t do much for Waylon, though, and so he turned to a life of petty crime (in his debut story, he acted as a mob enforcer), which we see landed him in the position we see in this episode. On another note, I appreciate this episode for being the first time Batman and Bullock work together, though reluctantly. We learn more about Bullock, some of his past on the force, and how despite him being rough around the edges, he still tries to do what’s right. While it will take time, and it will never be perfect, this is the start of the two learning to better work together. You were right about Thorne being in ‘It’s Never too Late’, but more importantly, he was also the one who blackmailed Harvey Dent and got him scarred. Obviously he didn’t make jail after being arrested last time.

As I recall, Bruce Tim's crew originally wanted to do something radically different with his character. They were gonna have him be a big game hunter who got bitten by rare lizard that gave him retile powers. Guess they realized that that was a stupid idea.

I really like you, man. So, I've been holding my tongue on this, because I hoped it would fix itself over time. But it's really starting bug me, so I'm just gonna come out and say it. It's pronounced 'Bulluck' not 'Bull-Lock'. I know that's not how it's spelled, but it's how all the other characters say it. And I know you can hear them say it, so why don't you say it the way they say it? And I'm sorry if that comes as rude, I really am enjoying this reaction series.

You’re entirely right and I’d completely forgotten all about this. They dodged their own bullet at the very last minute. I wish they had used Killer Croc more regardless, but then again, most of the villains in the show, save for Joker and one or two others, only really got an average of three episodes, and some weren’t even that lucky.

I’ve been holding my tongue too ngl but it’s more of a pet peeve than anything, not very important. 😭

On an unrelated note, what's your take on Caped Crusader? Personally, I liked Season 1. Sure, some things could've been better, but overall I enjoyed the ride. I didn't even mind the Lady Penguin thing. Except for her name. 'Oswalda'? That doesn't sound like a real name. Also, I'm reasonably sure the female equivalent of Oswald is Osma. With that said, I'm really looking forward to Season 2. So much so that I'm using one of my Vacay Days on the 31st so I don't have to wait all day to watch it.

Haha fair point! Honestly, I never even noticed how they were saying it in the show. I think that's just the Jersey in me coming out... it's just how the vowels roll off my tongue without thinking. Appreciate you guys watching and keeping me on my toes! I'll try to fix it but no promises. Lol.

I think season 1 had some good things going for it, but overall it was not at all this massive wow factor show I was hoping for it to be. I wasn’t a fan of the whole Penguin thing and a few other writing choice, the animation was a little spotty here and there, and the writing in general wasn’t groundbreaking. That said, season 2 looks pretty good and I hope the show can find some better footing there.
