The swords themselves are actually magic items it's hinted at but never really confirmed we can tell because they're metal so they're not actually Magic they can utilize Magic think of it like equipping a sword to your fire magic and there's only certain weapons you have that can go good with your powers or abilities in like a RPG

So from my understanding the swords aren’t magic items. Magic items weren’t a thing until licht and lumiere started working together. Licht had the swords long before he met lumiere. I’m pretty sure they’re unique to the grimoire and lichts magic. They turned black not because of time. But because of the anti magic that now resides in the grimoire. You can tell since once licht grabbed the demon dweller sword out of astas hand it turned back to white. They always had those names Demon Slayer, Demon Dweller, and Demon Destroyer.

You're right. They are actually swords. Could say magic swords though? I mean the one has absorption abilities from the get go. Oh, you think it has absorption from the grimoire? I could see that. Then Liebe corrupted it and added anti-magic to it.
