This show keeps getting better and better. I love that it focused on Higuchi and her position involving Akutagawa. Then the focus on Kenji was cool too!~ This dude Dazai kept his co-workers thinking he was still captured. LMAO! Penultimate episode down, S1 finale is up next! What did you all think of this episode? Thanks dudes.

Everything with Kenji in it is fun as hell, including this kinda half-episode that properly introduces him. I don't know if I can isolate a favorite part from that, it's just really fun. For the first half... I'm a big fan of the way they introduced a certain two Port Mafia characters very mysteriously, but the highlights for me are the impression that the Black Lizard were sort of testing Higuchi, or at least that's how I interpreted it - as they said, without Akutagawa here, why should they care about her orders? And the answer was her loyalty and willingness to risk her own life for this, not even asking for their help, because she saw it as personal. I think that basically won her their respect. So, that concept in general and how it plays out, and then the moment when Akutagawa wakes up and actually apologizes to her for making all of this her problem. In general I also just love getting started on seeing deeper into the characterization of some Port Mafia members. I also totally forgot about Dazai just sneaking a day off of work by pretending to not have escaped being captured yet. Goddammit Dazai. Why are you so great. Also, and this is NOT a spoiler because I have no clue what the truth about it is at all and very little info other than real life writer stuff and wild speculation on my own part, but something I've always wondered about with Higuchi is that she seems to not be gifted, but she IS named after Japan's first professional female writer of modern literature (according to Wikipedia, I'm not super knowledgeable about this overall, but I've done a bit of digging on most of the Japanese authors, and any non-Japanese authors I don't know. I actually found out some stuff I hadn't known about a few AMERICAN authors in this process, too, including ones I wasn't as familiar with as I thought I was). I legit don't know any more than that, but between being named after a writer who was actually kind of a big deal historically speaking, enemies weirdly having Stormtrooper Aim when they're shooting at her (BSD isn't SUPER realistic about guns or huge sprays of bullets, but it's usually a lot more realistic than THIS specific scene was), and a few other moments that I felt are odd but could just be me stretching it, I've low key been wondering for a long time if she's gifted but just doesn't know it. Again, this is not me using future info from the show, manga, or LNs, it's genuinely just my own theorizing... but I feel like there might be something there because I really doubt there's just no reason the manga and LN's writer, who rarely does a single thing with the story without a reason, would have named her after an author so famous that starting in 2004, her face is literally printed on ¥5,000 yen banknotes. (Though they'll be starting to switch to printing newer ones in 2024, but still, damn)

Dazai is truly a treasure in this series. Honestly? I'm starting to realize how strong this cast is with each episode. I love series like this! It really helps one get invested in it.
