The Witcher: Riddles in the Dark (Patreon)

A Witcher hunting for her friend. A Sorceress chasing forbidden power. And an ancient shadow rising in the East.

You know, I’m actually a tad emotional after finishing this one which is a first. This has been by far the longest I’ve worked on a single project. Including all the pre-work I did, we’re talking 5 weeks and 260 images in total from an idea in my head to completion on your screen.  

But it’s all been worth it. This is up there with one of my best sets of the year or ones I’ve ever done. I really wanted this one to feel epic with multiple characters and stages to make the length feel warranted. With four spicy parts, a long story and a lot of dialogue, getting that flow right was tough. But once I got into the flow of everything, it all came out naturally. 

The start was a challenge as I often struggle to go straight into the action without slowly building my way in with a talking section. But when I got to the part with Triss kneeling down around the Sylvan, the project just came alive and went from strength to strength really. 

With a long project like this, you need something to bind it all together. Here that came in the shape of a story that is probably the best I’ve done. It captured that dark Witcher vibes combined with homages to Lord of the Rings that really elevated this entire set for me. After reading The Hobbit, the idea of having Ciri and Bargash play a game of riddles brought a new theme to my usual content that was just fun to do. 

But onto the poses themselves, I feel like I was able to work around their shortcomings really well. Like with the Sylvan. He has tiny, tiny legs so posing him in a standing pose just looks kinda goofy. So I leaned into his gluttonous character and kept him either seated or lying down - letting the women do all the work. That was a creative and clever way to work around the issues I often face with these models.

So, overall, loved this set from beginning to end and am proud of myself to be able to maintain this level of quality over 4 weeks which was a big fear I had both going into and during the set. 

But I’ve love to hear any and all thoughts you guys might have. Fingers crossed it was worth the wait.
