The Black Panther soundtrack is a must 🙏🏾

Sheep

Fun fact he filmed the music video for n95 here in Dallas Texas! He's in the famous fountain park, the botanical gardens, and one of our big art museums!

Nina Mercep

EDIT: Also the SNL performance of Father Time is AMAZING to watch, Sampha is live with him too, one of his most immaculate imo! Section .80 pleeeeease AND the N95 video!

Nina Mercep

From what I know Kodak's inclusion was very intentional and had to do with redemption and recovery

AB

Just a couple of things: -Whitney is the female voice throughout the album -Before Father Time, Whitney tells Kendrick he needs therapy and tells him to call Eckhart. Eckhart Toole is a spiritual teacher (you can Google him) — his voice is also present throughout the album. -I find Kodak’s inclusion on the album to be very interesting, but it’s 100% international. IMO Kodak is not someone people would probably think Kendrick would be associated with but I think there is a definite tie in with the themes of therapy, breaking generational curses and abuse that tie in to Kodak’s inclusion.

AB

And great reaction as always!

Emma

not you imitating Marvin Sapp lmaoo

Alex

on Count Me Out. i thought he said *thats when i unite* with the father son... as in hes gonna keep reincarnating until he gets to the life that he has it all figured out, and only then he meets god.

Sam M

Oh hellllllllll yeah, I SEE IT!

Wiki Amba

We need an Aaliyah album review, Missy, TLC, Destiny’s Child, the rest of Chris Brown for #BreezyBowl, Cam’Ron/ Dipset, WuTang

Lkay

Hi great reaction... However you need Section80 to put everything into context. Section 80 is like the original GodFather. Good kid Made City is like God Father 2. When you listen to Section80 a lot of your questions will be answered. regarding his catalog.

MMTBS is definitely the hardest Kendrick album to digest. I listened to this one first before the others so I was really 🤯. However after listening to it numerous of times and getting other people’s POV I have a great appreciation for this album and it has helped me a lot through my dark times. Disc 2 is a hard pill to swallow but we needed it. Without it we would still have this “savior” complex about Kendrick that we shouldn’t have. “Mirror” is him saying I am not your savior because I am messed up too and have to save myself.

bby.bluesi

The irony about this album is that Drake listened to it (he was at the MMTBS tour) and still said the weird stuff he did. Kendrick told us he was a trash dude to his woman, and then to weirdly say Kendrick was touched when he clearly said he wasn’t. Sigh, lol. However, there are still some special people who can’t comprehend that Kendrick is not Mr. Morale or this savior. Kodak is on the album, imo, to further represent the duality that is Kendrick “they like it when I’m pro-black but I’m more Kodak Black,” Kendrick has been telling us since GKMC that he is a complex character. And I just think right now, we are getting the “evil” side of Kendrick.

James

Dang here take my money lol I needed the unedited version of yall reaction to Mr. Morale. I will be back when yall do The Heart series.

Okay. So for Auntie Diaries, he’s giving an interpretation of his journey to accepting and making sense of his trans family members. His “auntie” is a trans man- transitioned from female to male (my auntie is a man now), and reminisces about his experiences with him as a child, and how he admired him because he rapped, had money, women, and swag (much like how a lot of men aspire to have that). He goes in and out of she/he pronouns when describing him and brings up memories of his family being ignorant to accent his thought process at that time. He then talks about his cousin, who’s a trans woman-transitioned from male to female (Demetrius is Marianne now), and talks about how he saw the signs at an early age (Barbie dolls, reflection of Venus; I was very mindful of my good cousin), and how she stopped talking to him after she transitioned even though they were close because of what she experienced with the kids they grew up with and the church(*he* built a wall so tall, you couldn’t climb over). This time, he only addresses her as “he/him”, once again subtly giving us his understanding at that time. He’s reflecting on this also by bringing up how he and the other kids would say faggot so normally and he they didn’t know any better (again reconciling ignorance with his new come acceptance). He then closes the story by coming to acceptance, and defending his family members in church when the pastor tried to blame the worlds problems on trans people (symbolizing transphobia) and then he comes to full acceptance by connecting his use of faggot to an experience he had at a concert when a white fan he brought on stage rapped nigga, basically realizing the similarities in the offense he felt when she said it and empathizing with Marianne and other queer people when people constantly say faggot , not knowing any better. I personally love this song as a black queer person because it’s an unfiltered commentary a lot of men have to have with themselves about LGBTQ acceptance, and this son opened up so much productive conversations about this, and creates a space for education and understanding Amon straight and queer people.

Heart part 5 really rounds out disk two (I know it’s technically disk 3, but you know what I mean). This album has the emotional climax of Mother I, followed by the feel good catharsis of Mirror. But the heart part 5 is THE epilogue and it just absolutely demolishes. Listening to GNX you can see where he was going next with HP5. I’m with you on the ranking. It’s a 8-8.5 without HP5, it’s easily a 9 once you include it tho. Absolute 🔥 and it won all the Grammys for a reason

Ron

I really love y’all Kendrick reactions! I’m lowkey sad that the journey is almost over 😭😭😭 it’s rare nowadays to find unbiased reactors who honestly just love music, no matter who the artist is. Not even 30 mins into the video and I had to comment lol

morgan

Thank you for this 🤎

Thomas Furtick

Father Time is one of the only songs that makes me cry every time

Alexis Lindor

That is Whitney narrating the whole album speaking in the beginning of the songs

SEL

Thanks for another great reaction y'all! Agreed that Kendrick's lyrics discuss the human condition. Disc 2 has some super important messages and seems like a 'there when youre ready for it' kind of collection. Like he said in meet the grahams - "this the reason I made Mr. Morale, so our babies like you can cope later". I am a huge Kendrick fan AND all of his albums have had to grow on me, but with every listen they always do.

SEL

Would love to see yall react to some of his slickest guest verses (control, family ties, nosetalgia, etc.)

Nina Mercep

Hey smoove, there's an amazing live performance with sampha on snl kendrick did which is filmed so nice it may as well be a music video for Father Time

Ariel Smoke

Kodak was on the album for the Silent Hill song amongst other reasons. Kodak was jailed with one of XXX's Killers. Kodak is rapping from the Killer's perspective. Silent Hill is connected to Peekaboo and XXX's The Helping Hand Challenge. 🫡 to Thought Crimez for connecting the Dots.

Quanny

First person shooter kicked it off

Ashley Ginzburg

I think it can’t be understated how important it is and was to receive a song about Trans Allyship from Kendrick that speaks to people that aren’t usually spoken to about trans issues. My favorite Kendrick album

Ashley Ginzburg
