Hey Patrons!
In this special video, I’m testing out Ox Gall and how it affects water control in watercolor. To demonstrate, I painted a quick misty forest scene, showing how this medium helps paint flow and blend beautifully for those soft, atmospheric effects.
Ox Gall is a liquid solution made from the bile of an ox (or sometimes other animals). In watercolor, it's used as a wetting agent or dispersant. It helps the paint flow more smoothly and can improve the way pigments mix and blend on the paper.
Here’s how to use it:
Mixing with Paint: You can add a small amount of Ox Gall to your watercolor palette or paint mixture. It helps the paint spread more easily and can create smoother gradients and washes.
For Wetting Paper: If you're having trouble getting paint to spread across your paper, you can lightly spritz the surface with Ox Gall before painting. It helps the pigment move more evenly across the paper, especially in wet-on-wet techniques.
Improve Pigment Flow: When mixing watercolors, if the paint is too thick or sticky, adding a tiny drop of Ox Gall can improve the flow, allowing for smoother transitions between colors.
Be cautious with the amount you use; a little goes a long way.
