Layering Watercolor (Patreon)
Content
Hello Patrons!
If you’ve ever tried to paint layers and soft fog and ended up with muddy layers or harsh edges, this one’s for you.
In this piece I’m experimenting with gentle layering to build depth first, then letting the fog sit on top without overworking it. You’ll see how slowing down, using less paint, and choosing the right brush pressure makes all the difference.
I recorded a full voiceover walkthrough so you can follow the decisions in real time — when to stop, when to soften, and how to keep those dreamy transitions.
One tool that really helped with control here was my go-to brushes from Lebenzon. If you struggle with trees this brush make layering much easier. You can use code KELLIE for 20% off through the end of the month: https://lebenzon-paintbrushes.com/product/small-goat-synthetic-blend-brush-with-1-inch-bristle/
This is a great study if you’re working on atmosphere, depth, and letting watercolor do more of the work for you.
Thanks so much for watching, and happy painting. You can share your finished paintings in our chat section or add them in the comments!
