Full Version - Ad Free YouTube: The Secret to Better Greens (Viridian Mixing Made Simple) (Patreon)
Content
Whoops, I forgot to hit post yesterday - here's the new full version ad-free tutorial for you 💚
In this quick watercolor warm-up, I’m sharing how I use Viridian to mix better greens for florals—and how small shifts in your color mixing can completely change the feel of your painting. You’ll see how I adjust Viridian to create softer, more natural greens without overthinking it.
I'm also sharing my very first watercolor set that I used for my first 5 years of painting as a beginner and student teacher. It's the Winsor Newton Cotman Kit: https://amzn.to/4c92g3s
I want to share with you all that I think a lot of beginners don’t realize though, how important lightfastness can be until years later. The Winsor & Newton Cotman kits are such a great starting point (I used them early on too), especially for learning color mixing without investing a ton upfront. But some of those student-grade pigments just aren’t made to last the same way professional paints are. This a great reminder as a beginner:– Winsor Cotman Kit is student grade = awesome for learning, sketchbooks, practice.– Professional paints = better choice for finished work you want to last or if you are planning to sell your work.
Hope this helps you in your own painting practice!
Let me know if you try it and what you notice in your greens 🌿
