Replay is up for our Five Minute Friday warm-up and Q&A!

Today we played with color mixing using ultramarine, lake blue, sienna, and raw umber to create some really beautiful, natural shades. We also talked about glazing and how layering colors can completely shift your results.

I shared a quick cactus demo too—painting each one over a different base color, then layering green on top to show how much those underlayers matter. Such a fun way to see color in action!

We talked a bit about the lightfastness of our paints and how professional paints do last much longer without fading. If you would like to go a bit deeper, we talk about this in my 6 Week Self-paced Watercolor Affinity Seascape course: https://www.kelliechassefineart.com/courses/Seascapes

Have fun mixing and playing!

Hey GD!!…this made my afternoon 💙 Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the colors—we had fun with those mixes today! Those little mini landscapes are such a great way to sneak in some practice when you have a few minutes, so I hope you get a chance to play when you can. Sending big hugs your way, and thank you for always being here and cheering me on…means more than you know. xo 💕
