August Patreon Post - New HCZ Hallways (Patreon)
Content
Hello everyone!
For this month’s Patreon post, we would like to highlight a major change involving the Heavy Containment Zone (HCZ) in the form of a door rework.
We are thrilled to showcase what we have been working on!
[HCZ - Node System]
Written by: Bullet
Since the earliest manifestations of SCP:SL, doors throughout the facility have stayed consistent in design, with all three indoor zones sharing the same common door types. With the introduction of the HCZ rework, our Level Design team has been hard at work modifying this aspect by adding more varied door types to the zone. These door types have been split up into two different variants — large nodes and small nodes — with variations within these variants that serve separate purposes.
Large Nodes:
Large nodes are the compatible spaces between hallways — rooms where the doorframe can be removed without inhibiting the room’s style or purpose. Every common hallway in the HCZ have valid large nodes, including, but not limited to:
All standard hallways.
‘Fan Room’ hallway variant.
SCP-049 hallway (SCP-079 Bulkhead door).
Testroom (Bulkhead door).
Alpha Warhead Room (Bulkhead door).
Elevator system.
We are releasing two new variants of these large node door types, with one being usable only by SCP-079. Let's take a look at both of these doors and how they will change the gameplay of HCZ.

HCZ Bunker Door and SCP-079 Variant:
The HCZ Bunker Door consists of a large doorway that splits down the middle with two doors opening on each side to let one pass. These doors operate like a smaller version of the heavy gates seen on both Gate A/B and 914, which are completely blast-proof from grenades and susceptible to being pried open by SCP-096. These doors can only spawn between two separate hallways and have a button for interaction.
Note that both doors are made to be a ‘heavier’ version of standard doors, taking longer to open and longer to close. When in use, these doors have flashing lights to indicate an opening/closing state. Developers are still experimenting with this concept, and therefore it is subject to change.
Small Nodes:
In regards to small nodes, their purpose is to act as doorways that are dependent on the specific layout of the room they are in. An example of this being the HCZ armory, which is built out of small catwalks that connect to the armory itself. Since the doorframe cannot be cut out due to the structure of the room, a small node is used instead, which is the standard door frame. Some examples of small node rooms include:
HCZ armory.
Server room staircase side (topside is the room with both servers and a hallway door, the staircase door does not have the space for a large node).
SCP-106 room.
SCP-096 room.
SCP-079 room.
HCZ pipe hallway variant.
SCP-939 containment.
Tesla gates.
The small node door type will be accompanied with several new room variants that provide many new gameplay opportunities to the HCZ. These new additions include:
New Room Showcase (Plookie)
Junk Room
G Shaped Room
Grenade Windows
SCP-173 Jump Spots
