Hi all, introducing: [CGMZ] Footsteps!
This plugin will give you the option to play a footstep sound when the player walks on certain tiles. You can set up footstep sounds by either region id or terrain tag, then when the player walks on a tile with either the region id or the terrain tag they will hear a footstep sound.
Footstep sounds themselves can have a variance applied to their volume, pitch, and pan settings so the sound never sounds quite the same. You can also add a variable wait time between each footstep sound, so if your player is dashing they are not flooded with sound effects while moving across a footstep sound area.
You can also disable or enable footstep sounds via a plugin command. If you want the footsteps to stop completely for a certain spot in your game, it is an easy disable plugin command to do so.
Below is a short video example to get an idea of how footsteps can work:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUtsC9y4IEI
Please note that this plugin is still in Alpha and has quite a few planned features that will be added in future updates that were not quite ready for the initial Alpha launch. These include:
Footstep sounds change based on weather
Option to play footstep sound by current tile or next tile

This update adds the option to choose between multiple random sound files when choosing a footstep sound to play. This should allow you to give even more variance between sounds, in addition to the variance you can apply to volume, pitch, and pan settings.
This update also added the option to use a step-based delay instead of a time-based footstep delay (or both). What this means is that you can now require the player take 2 steps before another footstep sound plays, regardless of how long between steps they waited.
IMPORTANT: Due to the sound file parameter changing from a singular file to multiple files which can choose one file randomly out of the list, you will need to set this parameter up again when updating even if you only intend to use one sound file for your footsteps.
This version should hopefully make this plugin a bit easier to use. Since this plugin now has quite a few users, it became clear that there were a few difficult areas to learn at first. This update addresses both (hopefully).
First, the Change Footstep Sound plugin command has been removed, along with the initial setup Sound Enabled parameter. If footsteps are enabled is now controlled by a game switch instead. If this switch is not set up at all, footsteps will now always be enabled.
Second, footsteps can now occur on region id 0 or terrain tag 0. If you do not want a footstep to occur on region id 0 or terrain tag 0, set the parameter to the (new) default of -1.
This version adds visual footsteps. You can now show a sprite when the player takes a footstep, which could be something like footprints through snow. This sprite can be customized with different graphics for each direction as well as how long it lasts before it fades. See below gif for how it can look:
This update comes with two fade modes for footprints, step and time. Time based fading will automatically fade after so many frames no matter how far away the player is, while step based fading will fade only after the player has taken a certain amount of steps. The fade is linearly interpolated from a start and end value which can be customized.
This version adds animated footsteps to the possible options for your visual footsteps. These can also automatically fade out by using the existing opacity option, however they can also remove themselves once the animation is completed. You can use either option to fade out your animation slowly while it loops or to remove it immediately once the animation plays once.
See below gif for how it can look:
If the Frame Width is not set, the plugin assumes the image is not a spritesheet animation and will function as a static visual footstep.
