Modify the options scene. You can create options categories, choose which options appear in each category, and add new options.

Hi all, introducing [CGMZ] Options!

This plugin allows you to modify the options scene. You can create options categories, choose which options appear in each category, and add new options for the player.

New Options

By default RPG Maker only provides a few options. This plugin expands that to include some new ones that are easily set up by typing in a custom symbol. These include full screen, stretch mode, and master volume so far with more planned in future updates.

Categories

Add categories of options such as Video, Audio, Gameplay, etc. A more modern looking options scene that gamers will be familiar with. Within each category, you can have non-selectable spaces and headers in the options, getting away from the RPG Maker default feel where everything is selectable even if it has no function connected to it.

See below gif for how it can look:

Default Options

You can keep or remove any of the default options by typing in a specific symbol when setting your options up, each symbol is in the documentation. This controls how the option behaves, but you can still modify the default options text and other appearance settings within the plugin.

Integrations

This plugin has some integrations with other [CGMZ] plugins. More integrations are planned in future updates as well.

[CGMZ] Scene Backgrounds - Add a custom background image, including an image that can scroll or show weather.

[CGMZ] Window Backgrounds - Add a custom background image for your options windows. This can include a scrolling image that activates only when the window is active.

[CGMZ] Controls Window - Add a window that shows the player gamepad or keyboard controls, depending on their last input.

Roadmap

Below is a list of things planned to be added via future updates, in no particular order.

Custom options for switches and variables

Integrations with other [CGMZ] plugins

Options that can lead to new scenes (ex: difficulty select scene)

More easy to use default options

Additional option types

Do you have any ideas you'd like to see added to the plugin not already listed above? Let me know in the comments or in my Discord's #suggestion channel! I appreciate all suggestions I get and add them all to my to-do list.

Happy RPG Making!

This version adds the option to not use categories. You still need to set up your options under a category in the plugin parameters, however if the plugin detects you only have one category set up it will bypass showing the category window.

This update also added custom options. You can now set up options that are not the default or hard-coded special options provided (such as fullscreen) and read them via Plugin Command to make custom options for your game.

This version adds a new option type, the JS Option. This is an option that is completely controlled by JavaScript, so you can basically make it do anything you want with the limitation being your skill at writing JS code. This was prioritized so that you can add any option for other plugins as needed rather than needing to wait while other option types get added in an easy-to-use no-code format. This plugin should now be able to handle any type of option your game needs. See below gif for an example of what it can do:

If you create a JS Option, the default should be a fully functional on/off option to show you how it works from the default js parameters which you can hopefully customize from there.

This version also adds some more customization options. You can now control each window in the option scene's windowskin, tone, padding, etc. via an integration with [CGMZ] Window Settings. You can also now have line of text mixed in between your options, headers, blank lines, and custom spaces. These are non-selectable lines of text used if you want to provide an explanation for an option.

This version adds some more control over the window. You can now set an x and y offset as well as change the height. A bug with the window width parameter was also fixed.

This update also adds an option to take over default option names. Before, default option names came from the Database for compatibility reasons. If you would prefer your option names to come from this plugin, even for the default options, you can now set the Draw Default Names parameter to false.

This version fixed a bug that could occur on macs with the fullscreen option, as there seems to be a slight difference with how RPG Maker handles input between Mac and Windows when swapping fullscreen, where it keeps thinking keys are pressed while the mode changes. This caused it to loop between fullscreen and windowed mode on mac, which has been fixed. Another bug with the first element being selected when there is no category window has been fixed, and it will now properly select the first valid option.

This version also adds deep linking and a plugin command to call the option scene. This allows you to prepare the option scene by providing a category, if that category is selected, and an option symbol to select. This is useful if you tell the player about an option, you can open the scene directly to that option.
