Add more categories for your items, to separate things like crafting ingredients, etc. Or just customize & control the original commands

! SEE BOTTOM OF POST FOR UPDATES !

Hi all, introducing [CGMZ] Item Categories!

This plugin allows your to customize your item categories, allowing you to make more than just the standard item, weapon, armor, and key item categories. This can be helpful if your game has many different item types such as crafting ingredients that you want to keep separate.

Unlimited Categories

You can create as many categories for your items as you want with this plugin, there are no limits. Since the default window only displays one row of categories, this plugin comes with the option of changing the number of visible rows. If you have more categories that can fit, the window will scroll. Below is a short gif of how it can look:

Customization

You can customize each category including the order they appear in, add an icon to them, use text codes in their name, and add a background image to the command selection area.

Improved Select Item

By default, the Select Item event command allows your player to select from a list of all items (based on built in item types). This can quickly get difficult to find something if your game has a lot of items. This plugin comes with its own Select Item Plugin Command that allows you to make the player select from a custom category.

For example, if you have an evented crafting station and you want the player to select an ingredient to combine with another ingredient, you can use this plugin to only display items in the ingredients category to them.

Roadmap

As with all of my plugins, this plugin will receive lots of support. There are already some planned features to be added in future updates. These include:

Item categories matter in equip screen

Do you have any ideas you'd like to see added to the plugin not already listed above? Let me know in the comments or in my Discord's #suggestion channel! I appreciate all suggestions I get and add them all to my to-do list.

Happy RPG Making!

This version adds show and enable js conditions for your item categories. Now you can hide (or show but make unselectable) a category until certain conditions are met. This also works for default commands with Keep Originals turned ON.

I also fixed some bugs with Keep Originals being turned ON and trying to add background images to the default commands. This also allows the show and enable js parameters to work with default commands in this case too.

This version adds some options to help differentiate your item categories from the item and shop scenes. While it has been possible through JS to show/hide commands in each scene, you can now do this with no code. Something that was not possible before was changing the rows / columns in each scene, for example if you have 6 categories in your item scene but only 4 in your shops you can now show 2 rows in items and 1 row in the shop.

You can also now show different items in battle depending on the current active battle category. To make use of this, you will need some kind of plugin that allows you to create your own custom battle commands with js. For set up instructions, see plugin help area labeled Battle. See below gif of how it can look:

This version adds the ability to select from multiple item categories at once in both the Select Item plugin command and in the battle commands. If you have multiple Key categories, for example, you may want some doors to allow all keys while others only allow ice keys to be selectable. Similarly, in battle you may want all consumables to be selectable in one command, but they may have categories ingredients, seeds, etc. You can now accomplish both of these.

This was added in a backwards compatible way, so your existing commands should function as before.
