Customize any menu-based scene's background image with this plugin, including scrolling backgrounds.

! SEE BOTTOM OF POST FOR UPDATES !

Hi all, this month's small plugin CGMZ Scene backgrounds is ready to enter the alpha stage!

This plugin allows you to show a custom image as a background to any menu-based scene in your game. This works for the default scenes and includes instructions on how to set the background for each of those. It also should work for custom scenes created by third-party plugins. This was tested with CGMZ plugin custom scenes, but it should work for non-CGMZ plugin scenes too provided you know the scene's constructor name.

If there is no custom background image set up for a scene, it will fall back to the blurred map background which is default to the base RPG Maker code.

Want additional features not already present? Make suggestions in the comments below or in my discord under the #suggestions channel! I appreciate every suggestion I get.

Happy RPG Making!

This update adds the option to have your custom scene backgrounds scroll. This is similar to how you can have parallax images scroll on your maps. Scrolling can be in the x or y direction (or both), and you can also set the speed of the scroll.

This update adds tint and opacity parameters to your backgrounds. These work for both scrolling and static backgrounds, so you no longer need to have multiple different tints of your background in case you want to use the same background image with a little color variation between scenes. This update also optimized the scene's ability to find the correct background if any exists.

This update adds a way to change the scene background on the fly. The normal way of defining a scene background on scene load still should function as normal, but now plugins or custom JS can call a function to change the current background. This is planned to be used across a few [CGMZ] plugins such as the Encyclopedia to allow for more options for scene backgrounds that can change mid-scene.

Documentation has been added on the one line of JS required to change the scene background in case you want to do this in your own custom JS, such as in a plugin parameter somewhere or your own plugins.

This update adds the option to keep the blurred map background and show the custom background image on top of it. This is useful in case you want to have transparent sections on your custom background image that can then show part of the map.

As part of this, you can also now opt to remove the blur filter from the map image in the background in case you want a clear map image as the scene background.

This update adds weather to your menu scenes! You can now choose to either show a specific weather during the scene no matter what, or you can opt to show whatever weather is currently displaying on the map to show in the menu scene. Below is a gif preview of what it can look like.

This was added as a per-scene option so if you want the weather to carry over into each scene, you will need to set it up for each scene.

This version adds the option to show a video as a scene's background. The video will continue to loop in the background of a scene. This uses a custom [CGMZ] Video class so should be highly compatible with other video related plugins. See below gif for a short example:

Please note that you will need to have the latest version of [CGMZ] Core installed to use this.

This version adds the option to show foregrounds. These are similar to backgrounds and should have mostly all of the same options, but instead of appearing behind the windows and the other scene elements will appear in front. You could use this for edges of the scene that are meant to overlap the windows around the edge, or perhaps for a foggy effect in your menus if set to scroll. See below gif for how it can look:

This update also added the option to log scene constructors to the dev tools console when a scene is loaded, allowing you to more easily find a constructor for the scene you want to add a custom background for.

This adds the option to totally disable weather in the menus. This plugin adds weather which you can show in your menus, however if you are also using custom weather effect plugins those other plugins might have been created to only work on the map since that is where weather is used by default and that could cause this plugin to no longer work, even if set to not show weather.

This new option to disable weather will make it so weather objects are not created or used at all, which will make any weather options in this plugin not work, but should allow you to use this plugin's other features such as customizing the background / foreground, adding videos, etc. to your menus.
