There should be an X amount of years ban on dog breeding, purchasing or trading of dogs with serious jail time attached until pound numbers go way down, and then a very highly regulated industry to breed them after. It won't stop all the millions of homeless dogs but it'll definitely reduce the population.

Suggestion for a sequel episode to this one. How about an episode on French Bulldogs? They're just as popular, insanely expensive, and have a ton of genetic/breeding issues. The poor things can barely breathe because they're breed to have those tiny snouts!! I have a knee jerk reaction to assume anyone who owns a Frenchie is a d-bag, POS. Another good one to look into is Huskies and similar breeds. People started buying them like crazy because of Game of Thrones without realizing how much care they required and ended up getting rid of them. If people wanna normalize that they are "Pet Parents" aka they're pet is their "child", then we oughta start punishing them the same way neglectful/abusive parents are punished imo.

I had a rich roommate who adopted a French bulldog puppy and didn’t train it, so he pooped on the floor constantly. It didn’t help that the dog was dumb as a sack of bricks, probably due to its small brain and poor breathing.

In my experience the healthy pets are the ones you get from families who pups have unrelated parents. Family are not breeders just sometimes they sneak a little boom boom at the dog park when your not watching.

We were really lucky with our pup. Obi Won, my childhood dog, was a cacapoo (cocker spaniel and poodle). He was such a good boy and had good temperament. Lived until he was 16.
