They're just copying Doug Walker.

BruceyDaPug

Paul will be salting the grave tonight

SvP

your audio control for the videos suck, I have to be like a DJ durring the episodes to raise and lower the volume .

Just_A_Guy

In the summer of 1997 I crossed paths with Roger Ebert in New York City. Literally, we crossed paths on a crosswalk. He was the only celebrity I saw on that vacation :/

Xenos Nassar

Great episode. That's a pretty gay hat tho, Paul.

Joshua Forbes

Hell yeah. Been waiting for this one!

Carly Marie

I'm so stoked! Been waiting for this forever!

EVbelieve

As bad as the phantom menace is it's still better than the last jedi because even if you hate everything about the prequals you can ignore them to a certain degree. All the events in the original trilogy happen and it still works but the last jedi makes all of the struggles and training that the characters we followed went through feel like an absolutely meaningless waste of time. Rian Johnson fucked the shark with that movie. The force awakens has plenty of flaws but the trilogy could have been salvageable but the last jedi killed star wars more than the phantom menace ever could.

Kevin Mogg

ahhhhh so excited to sit down and watch this. rip'em apart paul.

Though badly directed, the prequels are an interesting story. The prequels still feel like a Star Wars movie. You are right that TLJ is garbage. Just because you can deconstruct does not mean you always should.

Robert Wolf

Come on Die Hard is a fucking 4? COME ON! IT"S A FUCKING 5! Do a fucking Die Hard DFF now!

Anonymous
>>19707710

They're using his rating system. 4 is the top rating. It's a 4 out of 4.

HeartofBarkness

Wait a minute, there's no pre-post show to go along with this.

Elizabeth Ann Duffy

Speed 2 did indeed suck BUT have you seen Speed 3? With Pat Mustard the villainous milk man?

Bigass Frog

Finally became a patron and this episode proves I made the right decision. Excellent show. Eat dicks, Ebert!

John Morris

When I was a kid I watched the Nostalgia Critic episode on Roger Ebert and I thought he was cool so I like all of his books and even though I didn't agree with all of his opinions on films I took a lot of his words as gospel but now I really regret that now, but now Im able to form my own opinions and I have my own movie review channel.

Graham Paterson

It is very little known fact that the speed franchise is a trilogy and a rarity that the third movie finishes with so much aplomb. I believe that it would be a ripe subject for a Deep Fat Frying as it presents proto celt film making at its finest set against the neo revolutionary movement in post theocratic Ireland and the plight of working women with their newfound identity and sexual liberty. It also has a n Eskimo in it so you know that would get TJ's back up.

Connor

I looked up his review of The Fantastic Mr. Fox, one of my favorite films of all time, and he actually gave it a 3 1/2. I was expecting him to say it was "juvenile" or complain about silly plot points. I mean, how can 3 farmers afford to fund a paramilitary extermination campaign. Hell, I thought he'd at least bring up the weird fact that the animals and humans can even communicate, but I guess he wasn't completely daft 100% of the time.

Alex

You guys been doing this for a year and all of your media clips in the video remain unhearable. If I want to hear it, I have to crank up the volume, preceding with my ears being blown by the clipping voices of 3 neck beards. This content isn't consumable.

The Barron Family

Finally got your chance to be the critic, critic TJ

Kristen R

I could suck Roger Ebert's dick like a pro and he'd still only give me two stars.

Kyle Sager

Hunter S. Thompson would be a great DFF.

Marcus Smith

HEY FUCKWAD WHO PUTS THESE ON PLAYLISTS AND ARE LITERALLY STEALING CONTENT, FUCK YOUUU. THESE AREN'T GIANT ASS COMPANIES THAT DON'T NEED THE MONEY YOU'RE PIRATING FROM, THEY'RE JUST AVERAGE BLOKES MAKING A FAIR LIVING YOU PIECE OF FUCKING DOG SHIT!!!! VIMEO SUCKS ASS FOR SHITTY INTERNET USERS IT TAKES ME AGES TO WATCH THEIR VIDEOS THEY PUT UP ON VIMEO, STOP IT!!!!

Brian

Thank you. I have been waiting for this. I was going to send you some stuff you might have used, but it appears you beat me to this. So, I'll include it here. Look up their review of "Silent Night" the old Santa-Claus inspired slasher movie from the 80's. I have not found the full review, but here is part of it in a clip. In it, the other idiot tries to shame the movie makers and appears to try to direct the outrage pro-censorship mob on them. https://youtu.be/opcrXyLXlP0?t=316 Not to mention his anti video game rants near the end of his (too long) life. In all the fawning eulogies of Ebert, people talked about how much he LOVED movies and the art of film-making. He loved neither. He HATED movies, and he hated the art. He only loved himself and thought himself a much more talented man than he was. His entries into the creative side of movies were laughable failures and flops. He was the stereotype of an asshole critic- can't create, so he built a career on judging the creations of others. And doing so in the most self-centered, self aggrandizing way possible- building a mythology around himself as a guy with his finger on the pulse of the average moviegoer. He built this myth by lying about his own work and denigrating others. If he can be said to have a talent- it was only that. He obtained a position of privilege and authority over real artists and real producers by getting a TV show- a rare thing in the 80's when media was smaller and TV personalities much more respected than today. Death did not take him soon enough. Fuck this guy, fuck this guy, fuck this guy. Praise DFF for being the ones to give voice to my contempt. You rock.

i been saying this for months. Volume 100 for clips of Ebert, volue back down to 20 when the guys start talking

Samuel Hammond

Low key ebert is right that clockwork Orange is right wing and that fight club is facisast. That's exactly why I like them.

Brown

Is the video archive up?

Brian

OK, now that I've watched the video, I want to add on to my opinion above. He's just an even bigger twat than I thought. (Look, I rhymed- where's my Pulitzer?) If someone just has different opinions about what kind of art is good and is firm in their opinion- that's just fine by me. The problem with Ebert goes way, way beyond that. I think that your final analysis of Ebert is on the mark. He was writing for the advancement of his own career and esteem. Why does he give the pregnant Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, the name of which I've already forgotten, three and a half stars? Simple. He anticipates being in a room with Arnold Schwarzenegger- that's it. Protecting that access drove his writing to the disservice of himself and his audience. I think part of the success of the At the Movies show was the simple fact that the host argued. It's hard for young people to understand that 90's and earlier TV programming never, ever saw anything but polished, boring, always-in-agreement presenters. The fact that you could tune in and see an argument was mind-blowing at the time. Looking back- it really isn't' such a big deal. The part of Ebert's career that is just unforgivable isn't his terrible taste in movies, but a willingness to side with censors and damage careers- real people who are struggling in a tough business. See my earlier example of Silent Night, Deadly Night. Look at how they "reviewed" that movie by calling for what today we would call "doxxing." Look at the effect it had on that movie and the careers attached to it. These were real people that suffered real financial setbacks (if not hardship) and stymied careers because of the outrage mob and corporate bullying. Ebert did what he always did- he was a follower, never a leader. He could have stood up for the art that made his career possible- but instead, he shit on it. He has similar schizophrenic takes on the ratings system that doesn't jive with his treatment of art he doesn't like. See here for an example of this, and also an example of his swelling lower jaw just before it must have exploded. https://www.rogerebert.com/rogers-journal/ugly-reality-in-movie-ratings His judgement on video games as "not art" is just objectively wrong. How do I know that? I took an 101-level Art Appreciation class and read the first assignment. The definition of art is simple- anything that is made with the singular purpose to be experienced and appreciated. If it has the purpose of being functional- it is called "craft." For example, home building is a craft as it serves a purpose- giving you shelter. It is also an art, as there are design choices that are meant to be only aesthetic. If you take a sideways picture of soup cans at the supermarket because you think it looks interesting that way- congratulations, you just created art. Did someone make an artistic choice to color the bug in Yar's Revenge a certain way? Yes? Guess what, it's now art. It's just that fucking simple. English Lit Doctorate holder Ebert somehow missed that lesson. Or, he's just massively full of shit. Per usual, he had his ridiculous anti-gaming take because he knew the only people still looking for his takes in 2010 were fuddy-duddies like himself. Everybody else just moved on to vastly more informed and/or more interesting critics found online.

Anonymous

I think he hated all the good movies. And loved all the bad movies. Just to see if the audience was dumb enough to buy his shit.

Brian
>>19803695

I would agree, but that would mean he innovated creating an audience by trolling- and I do not see any signs of innovation in his career.

Delayed

I gotta say, he looked pretty horrifying towards the end of his life. Like the picture that TJ put up legitimately shocked/scared me. You guys would not want to have the ghost of Ebert haunting your dreams. I certainly didn't...

Neebsz

Cynemaforcynics when

William

I hate to disagree with one of my fave YouTubers, TJ, but I very much love Alice in Wonderland. To each his own lol. But I will admit hating Die Hard is dumb.

Harry Lee-Jones

I looked at Paul at around 2:00:46 and it appears to be that Paul is not as fat as he portrays himself as.

Samuel Hammond

"Subversive" is the dff "wholecolth"

gazein2thefuture

Dude I can't hear the video clips played on the shows. You over corrected after blasting our ear drums out in the Dr Phil vs Dr Drew ep

ElgorinRein

To balance out the comments more I just wanted to say that I like Roger Ebert, Yea maybe you dont agree with all of his reviews but there are still plenty of classic films that Ebert liked for example: Mad Max, Alien, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Jaws, and Lord of The Rings, just to name a few.

Ryan Sansossio

Was excited for this one. 20 mins in and im already sick of the constant kayfabe bullshit. If you just stuck to telling the story about Ebert and didnt interrupt every 5 seconds with stupid unfunny shit, the episode would be half as long and a lot better. I love this channel but damn it gets annoying when you do this. Alittle is fine, but know when to stop.

Jeff

I’m surprised this brain-dead, peice of shit didn’t like Deuce Bigelow 2.

Matt Schilling
>>20268301

It builds excitement to when they actually start savaging him, and they cut it out and just the right moment imo

Tucker Hoggan

I come back and watch this episode all the time. Still one of my favorites. Keep up the good work you guys!

killspree

i am a huge fan of DFF, and that moment when paul broke kayfabe about roger ebert could quite possibly be one of my top favorite DFF moments ever. i love you guys; thanks so much for another winning episode.

ed

...TJ u listen to MSI?

Jonathan

It's easier to imagine him as a barbarian than a big fat pregnant bitch. lol That guy was such a shill.

Patrick Lemke

TJ's power could shatter dimensions.

Oliver Zinn

this video is so stupid, I mean the guy's seen thousands of movies of course some of his opinions are going to be dumb. TJ has really stupid movie opinions too like he thinks that the Magnificent Seven is boring and that War Movies are bad

J Allen
>>51943278

You're just objectively wrong Roger Ebert was a fucking moron.

Dylan Whaley

He also didnt like Snatch. Fookin cunt.
