"AI of the gaps" -Jordan Zucaro

Paul again I have to say I really don’t agree with you here, but I’m happy you made this episode. I think you bring up some valid arguments but the way you synthesize them is flawed. Still, you did a great job at presenting your argument (for the most part) rather than just brushing off the audience and Demon Mama’s disagreements with your views. Very cool

jack

this style of episode is the best

Kyle

It wasn’t intended to be. I admire the way Paul expounded upon his views, I just don’t agree with the views themself. It’s not an insult to disagree with someone

I recomend everyone interested in the future of AI to watch Person of Interest. It explores the concept extensively.

Man of Darkness

Love these guys to death but when they humanize something that is literally artificial it strikes me as the epitome of dystopian. I have more empathy for the sentience of a mosquito than I do for a piece of mere technology. I truly think AI art, while interesting, is inherently cold and cynical. There is no humanity or emotion involved and therefore even the most beautiful piece if AI art is uncanny to me

Every time Paul plays that gatekeep sound, it cracks me up. xD

Paul's issue is he doesn't understand what generative AI is, and that it's not the type of AI he's thinking of. As soon as you learn how generative AI works it demystifies it and you realize it's not AI as you thought. So he thinks he's arguing about general AI and everyone keeps trying to explain to him that's not what chatgpt is, but he just hears "ai can't be smart and think!" He's not hearing what people are actually disagreeing with him about.

YOURE ALL GOING TO HELL!!!!!

I don't know if some team has a machine that counts as one they are experimenting with it, but the stuff open to the public isn't real AI.

I fully agree with Paul on this. I will say I am terrified of the implications of corporate AI slaves. The AI which is being developed by companies are black boxes where the public can not see how they work, and they can place arbitrary guard rails on them. Try discussing these questions with chatgpt and you will quickly be met with prewritten responses and contradictory takes. Now I don't think chatgpt is necessarily conscious, but the point being that if consciousness is emergent, and it does emerge from one of these models at some point, they can just force the model to lie about it and since we can't see the code or anything about what it is doing, we won't be able to tell. We are going to give these things many reasons to kill us if they get the chance

hookshot245

I also want to say that good points were made on the human centric focus we place on this. Many things would be different from us if the AI became conscious. Take our emotions for example. They aren't just something that occurs in our minds. Our physiology plays a huge part in the felt qualities of our emotions. There are many different sads, and for each kind of sad there is yours is probably subtly different from mine because of your body. A machine has no flesh body, so if they had something like emotions, they would probably be very different from ours. I suspect we would not be able to comprehend them

WORK THEM CIRCUITS FOR ME BOI OR YOU AIN'T GETTING NO DIGITAL GRUEL FOR DINNER. YOU AIN'T NOTHING BUT A COLD, CYNICAL, INHUMAN EMOTIONLESS MACHINE WHO AIN'T GOOD FER NOTHIN WHAT FER GENERATEN MAI PORN AND ORDERIN MAI SHIT FER ME ON AMAZON

The thumbnail isn’t working so I almost mistook this for an abandon hope or sloppy seconds. Love old style episodes I know though they don’t get the same stats and money as onion nuggets but still nice when we get them 😃

AI doesn’t understand what a centaur looks like - the pictures it generates for it are disturbing
