I just want to remind everyone that Isekai Ojisan is the very best and you should all be watching / reading it if you haven't already. That guy really has a good reason to get back home and it's awesome.

Not Quite Left 4 Dead

Aura Battler Dunbine and Executioner's Way Of Life are peak isekai.

Some guy

Show up for the isekai trashing, stay for the Dungeon Crawler Carl glazing.

Kiskaloo

I noticed the director of Frieren recently took shots at all the isekai slop being produced and is concerned it might diminish anime’s acceptance in the West.

So many mentions of Elf pussy that I was having Vietnam flashbacks to "horse pussy" days.

*NEW ACHIEVEMENT* Sexually Transmitted Isekai Due to your verifiably based taste in anime, your admonition of DCC in the past has resulted in my subsequent actions of listening to every audiobook currently available in the series; additionally I have purchased the audio drama for the first book. I am also now personally invested in how the series is handled in the disparate media interpretations that are coming; which in truth is the most insidious symptom of the transmission: a lack of indifference about a media franchise so that now I must actually care. How was this done sexually? Might be a question you ask yourself, Crawler. Might'n them dogs been barkin and need a good oiling and rub down? Reward: IDK Maybe more people liking the same shit you do and a feeling of unanimity in your views being vindicated by those around you i guess

"Until you just wanna make out with a P320" damn I can feel the poison from over here.

I didn't even think of Sonny Boy as an isekai, because its feels so unlike every other, which goes to show there is still a lot of unexplored narrative space.

Ben MS

Isn't that the one that keeps going off all whoopsie-daisy?

19:44 you were already discussing Peak, and then during that you showed gameplay from Classic Peak.

SCP 3887B

So didn't he used to advertise that videos here didn't have ads?

"Better" or "worse" isekai is like "better" or "worse" p0rn. There are objective criteria, like the quality of writing, background art, animation.. Beyond that, it's all up to personal tastes. And if it satisfies your personal kink, you can even forgive crappy animation. People have different level of tolerance for "questionable" themes, overused cliche or to cult propaganda. Some things may be dumb, but can be seen as a satire by someone.. Some references can only be understood by a few.. For me, there are anime whose quality I can certainly acknowledge, but still somewhat dislike for ideological reasons. Frieren, Re:Zero, Tanya etc.

Speaking about Re:Zero. I liked the early parts, because they were fun, even if the characters kept dying. Great production value too. But later it turned into many hours of observing somebody subjected to psychological torture, essentially a snuff film. Not a fan. Not a fan of cult propaganda undertones too. And, the last season is, as far as I'm concerned, content free. Just several hours of gruesome combat that goes nowhere. Weak.

I really like the last part, I also noted it but I never got the words for the exact emotions; they don't want to get back. The lack of hope is, in my biased opinion, a constant on our times, and I think that's wrong because I, having lived more than 4 decades, am sure that things are measurably better in many aspects than 30 years ago. The world, our world, is a incredibly based place that is worth of fighting and live for, it is a place I would totally love to get back, but those Isekais, along with a lot of other things in media, seem to want us to forget it.

The greatest potential for Isekai (unless it is something else, hiding behind isekai formula) is the contrast between our world and another, bringing knowledge and physical objects between worlds. Maybe getting experience and friends in another world, then going back to fix your life or solve other problems in the "real world". These days they are usually not making just "isekai", but rather its subgenre: "white truck isekai". Whose characters are irreversibly removed from the original world and typically don't even bring anything from it besides mental trauma.
