Oh man, this was a good video. I checked out Chrysalis a little while ago since you kept mentioning it, and it was really great! Though, I went and read other series and really fell in love with Bog Standard Isekai and 1% Lifesteal! Highly recommend

Am I the only one who likes those fucking things? I demolish them. Can't get enough. Video game mechanics? Yes, please. Non-sensically idiotic hero's party ejecting their most powerful member because he's so OP they can't tell he's more powerful than them? 1000% sign me up. An MC who is a mega Chad but somehow thinks he's a burden or a liability? Shut up and take my money.

Legend of Heroes fan!? Damn your pedigree just keeps getting better and better. The whole world of trails feels very alive from the places and characters.

Absolutely lost my shit when Interspecies Reviewers was mentioned in the way it was.

Bog standard is seriously underrated. Id recommend dungeon crawler carl, this trilogy is broken, loot death and vampires, defiance of the Fallen, and he who fights with monsters. These our kind of extremes in each category for the genre

Hey, that's my story and stuff

What started the “those effing things trend.

As happy as I am to see FF14 pretty much anywhere... why tho?

I spent WAY TOO MUCH MONEY today getting a literal armload's worth of books--and Dungeon Crawler Carl was a serious contender in that pile, but the bookstore only had the graphic novel and i wanted the actual book Guess i gotta keep my eyes peeled for Chrysalis now! Sounds like a book-ification of that time a bunch of people got together to roleplay as ants on tumblr

Your local library probably has them, and if you get the one with the block coloured graphics on them, hardcover or paperback, there are physical-only bonus sections with a bit more backstory in them.

"Exodus: Ultima III" was neat in that it gave the illusion of being able to wander around a 2d continent about the size southern Asia...on the C64, to be honest.

Nah I absolutely eat up the cheesy video game logic in everything. When the scene has to slow down every minute for video-game text about abilities and stuff to pop up, I know I'm watching pure fucking gold. The only problem with it is how fucking awesome it is. Gimme stats screens on every single frame and I'm a happy fella.

mean on the menu UI design SOA is great but the show mid over all now if you want the best verson of SOA that would be abridged by something witty it great. I love this video since it a easy way to drop sup par anime.

If Jeff hays is in I AM IN, SOLD lmfao i was just casually listening to the video and then I got distracted and then excited by and ad, what a weird world

Jeff hayes is so good it's not fair

I liked the video. Just as you said about Japan, my introduction to "Capital F Fantasy" was with videogames like Chrono Trigger and FF 6. But the use of the "Adventurers Guild" has become so common that I can barely stop myself of rolling my eyes when I see one, unless it is to make fun of the concept. And despite playing so many of those games, the moment I see a "stat screen" I turn off the video and do something else, no matter how cool they might look. One of the things that make life difficult (and arguably, interesting) it is the uncertainty of things. If we had one of those screens to tell us if we are actually capable of doing that job we dream of, if we have the actual skills to perform that task, or how many points we have to "farm" to play that musical instrument, I think all philosophy and deepness of life would be lost, it would just become a bunch of paperwork and homework to do. Watching them on any other setting that it is not a videogame is, for me, completely dumb.

what really gets my goat about these "videogame logic" worlds is that they're more often than not written by people who don't play videogames, actively hate them, or have played one shitty jrpg once years ago and assumed that's how all videogames are
