Yeah Xie Lian definitely doesn’t swing that way 😭 it’s only implied in the show because Chinas censorship but in the novels his relationship with Hua Cheng is no secret, it’s insane.

Im so glad they decided to translate "gege" as just "Xie Lian". Imo it's the best possible option, next to just leaving the word as it was in the original and adding an annotation. I feel like im loosing 5 years of my life each time i watch a drama and one of the leads calls the other "brother" instead of like hyung for example lmao

I think it's so funny how the pining is there in the novels, but it's not painful. Somehow, the censorship made the homosexual tension WORSE, it's absolutely painful.

I wish I could say something about the eyeball soup but my Dad’s side of the family came over from Poland as soon as their papers were approved and they could come out of hiding which was RIGHT after WWII so they managed to escape the holocaust. My dad was 5 when they got here so my grandma was born BAAACK in the day in Poland and was always trying to get me to eat scrambled pig brains, and specifically cow tongue and eyes from some animal- something to do with my marriage (she started in about it when I was around 10) for one of them and either fertility or wisdom or something for the other. I just kept telling her I loved her but there’d have to be NO other food to eat or likely to become available anytime in the foreseeable future before I’d eat any of those things. I LOVE most Polish food but I don’t eat organs voluntarily.

I find the wind master HIGHLY suspicious. Not sure what they’re hiding yet but definitely something. Too interested in their own looks to be volunteering for stuff, has WAAAY too many merit points they were showering on everyone that day distracting everyone when he was asking for assistance, and entirely too powerful to pull off being rich, vain, and a volunteer believably. Closet Xie Lian fan? Is being blackmailed? Up to no good? No idea but definitely hiding something.

Dayum, the curtains aren’t even moving in that “fight”. I HAVE one-manned a raid boss, didn’t realize it and thought I’d just found a decent boss finally. THEN there’s Hua Cheng. I hate to be a LITTLE old school but Hua Cheng is like trying to fight Ruby Weapon without knowing who the boss is, doing ANY prep work and just strollin right into the fight. Turn 1 is automatically the boss’s who deals cap HP dmg to entire party aaaand dead (sucks if you do the side quest without realizing what you’re getting into and been hours since you saved). I DO think Hua Cheng is trying to help as best he can in this situation. However, not only is this is territory, but who would go to an area he basically described as a vacation spot for anyone who doesn’t want to deal with the rules of heaven or the torture of hell if he shows favoritism and which of the calamities wouldn’t LOVE to to take it from him or see ANY sign of weakness? I’d think he’d have to be ruthless to keep EVERYONE playing by whatever rules he’s set, but fair enough for everyone to want to stay or at least keep visiting. And one of the first rules of ANY vacation spot is no making trouble except in an establishment for making trouble (because there usually IS one) where not only will you not bother other patrons, they’ll be having fun participating or watching. He can likely afford to be a bit unpredictable in an “I’m bored” sort of way as long as there’s no particular favoritism or manipulation trend and it’s not so often it’s no longer unpredictable. It adds an edge to the fear so no one is complacent, and allowing Xie Lian to gamble for his life back this way just looks a bit like he’s enjoying making him uncomfortable. As for the bet for the guy’s daughter’s hand in marriage and 20 years of her life? It wasn’t very specific, she could work for him for 20 years and he could give her away to whoever she wanted to marry or act the priest or spend 20 years doing whatever she liked best as long as she let him know and he ordered her to and the “house” won. But I said it before, I’m pretty sure gods of war arent generally chosen for brains. I mean Athena was a goddess of war, but not the kind that’s jumping in with a sword like Ares or bow and arrow like Artemis a prototector goddess. She was a goddess of war the way most men throw dinner together while historically, (before it was required to either be paid VERY VERY well, have roommates, or all adults need to work just for people to be able to pay the bills) women passed down their knowledge, skills, and recipes and multitasking to rule the kitchen as their domain for dinner and have several things done around the same time so they’re all still hot even with vastly different cooking and prep times. Then while eating the dessert is finishing in the fridge or oven. A bit of a cheat since the female brain has a larger corpus callosum ratio (section that connects the hemispheres, think of it in terms of average size ratio = normal data transfer speed, smaller size ratio compared to brain = noticeable learning development issues while still in childhood from speed slower than dial-up, bigger connection to brain ration = device hard line connection file transfer improving thinking speed, problem solving, and task switching speeds) but Athena was a war, wisdom, and invention, goddess, she worked smarter not harder and made catapults, multi-firing portable and mounted stationary defense crossbows, siege towers, etc. and gave plans including terrain picked to their advantage to worshippers she found worthy of her backing in war.

They BOTH have every reason to be if you ask me cuz DAYUM for BOTH of them for such very different reasons. They can flirt all they want, I would if I wasn’t so damn blunt and met someone I clicked with that hard and was that pretty on top of it. The pretty goes away but it would be nice to stare at while it lasts.
