the day or time they keep mentioning is the day chi Cheng gave to dr to convince wu so Wei to sleep with him. The dr said in 5 days the ex will come back to wu so Wei, so for him when he said one more hour to go he meant it'll be 5th day in an hour for the ex to come back. when chi Cheng said he thought wu so Wei will wait till 11:59 pm to show up he meant he gave dr 5 days and that 5 days will be over at 12:00 as wu so Wei is stubborn he thought he'll wait till the last moment & chi Cheng doesn't know what did dr do to convince wu so Wei 😅. That moment was really funny in the novel because when wu so Wei was rambling chi Cheng thought what is he even talking about and the he clocked that's dr doing.

to answer your question about the timeline, earlier—on his ex’s birthday, the night Chi Cheng was in a bad mood, drank heavily, and snapped at Wu Suowei—Chi said in their conversation that he’d spent “six years smiling at his rival (Guo),” and Wu’s inner monologue added, “I’ve been living with it for six months too.” That shows that by that night it had already been about six months since they first started seeing each other. After that, they went through starting the company, Wu Suowei’s injury and hospitalization, and then some ups and downs in their relationship after he was discharged, which—even in the fastest case—adds another two months. So from their first contact to the present it should be at least eight months. Before they met, Wu Suowei was twice injured by blows to the head and then lost weight, which would have taken at least another two or three months. All told, by this point in the story, it’s been at least ten months since the beginning.
